question before buying
so i have a 00 z28 camaro and 2003 z71 with a 5.3l in it.
ive been planing on getting a small tune for the truck.
and i want to add lots of mods later on to the camaro.
im thinking the right thing to do is to buy hp tuners.
no one local that ive found tunes here. so insted of having
to pay for a bunch of tunes im thinking ill buy the program.
ive got 5 laptops 5 years old im sure one of more will run it.
will the vcm suite come with the usb cables and data cable an such?
do i need to buy it also
from what i see and gather here there is enough info and help here.
im sure i wouldnt have any issues learning it and
im darn good with a computer. i have no issues working them at all.
it comes with 8 credits is that enough for a beginner for two vehicles?

Hp tuners pro is loads of fun just plan to spend some time reading the how to write ups. Be sure and get a wideband like the LM2 that easily connects to the interface. Tuning without a wideband isn’t tuning at all.

Yes it does come with the cables you need.
Not like buying a printer where it doesn't even come with a usb to be able to use it.
To add to what sunny said - spend loads of time reading the write-ups, searching for other guys question threads - for me I have been reading for months off and on.
"some time reading" I believe is a bit of an understatement for guys like me who have to juggle life while trying to learn to tune.
But its fun to figure things out and be able to see the results of what you have done.
Oh and I put off getting a wideband for a few months but wish I had done it sooner.
Just as well to start off with all the right stuff rather that try to wait

so to connect a wideband do I need hp tuners pro?? or can I get a wideband guage? how does this work pro I cant really afford it to be honest

Whether you get the standard or pro variant, you will still need a wideband kit (gauge) that provides a linear output, so you wont be able to avoid that expense. You have to connect the wideband linear voltage output to the HPTuners box in order to log that data. The short answer to the pro vs standard question is that a wideband can be wired into one of two sensors (EGR and ac pressure, I think?), so the pro variant isn't strictly required, but if you don't want to carve on the car's wiring harness or you want to tune more than 1 vehicle, pro with the EIO ports is the right way to do it.
If you want to learn more about wideband with HPTuners standard, spend some quality time with the search button. That topic has been covered a ton of times in a lot of detail, so I won't waste our time adding to that pile :)
Not to be an ass or anything, but if cost is a huge concern, you may want to consider paying someone to tune your car for you. If you're done modding the vehicle, especially if the changes are relatively minor, having someone tune it for you will be less than the price of the wideband kit and either HPTuners product option.
If you want to do it yourself, I totally respect that, but be VERY careful. Measure twice, cut once or whatever that old adage is. It isn't likely, but it is possible to cause catastrophic problems for the engine if you aren't well versed in what you're doing or you don't know how to log or analyze the data for the changes that you are making. There is a learning curve to doing this that I am still sorting out.
