Plug the Maf back in. I always tune the Maf & leave the VE table stock on the V6 cars.

i'm not tuning this car, just want it to run correctly. the reson for unplugging the maf was to prove that it wasnt the maf that was causing the issue.
Idle at 18 degree retarded and under load jumps to 20-something ish retarded. is that right? Does this sound like the timing belt/chain has jumped a rib or two?
The early V6 cars report negative timing. Read the help files> VCM Scanner > Negative to Positive Timing.
Any codes set?

it has a secondary ve table right? or am i totally wrong on that? Thats why i unplugged it in the first place, to verify if it was/wasnt the maf sensor.
the only codes were the maf code and the crankshaft position sensor code.
97s will have negative timing where 98-03s have positive timing.
Plug the maf back in. Without it, you will likely not see any misfires recorded because many of the bins are set to not check for misfires if a maf failure occurs..
If it is a 97 and the catalytic converter has never been changed, you might want to start looking for one.. Can easily lead to a misfire dtc. Will make the car feel horrible too..
