Anyone know if I can run it without running XP? (hogs memory)
It's a G4 with Tiger OSX. We currently run Excel, and Word, and a few other windows programs.
what you -could- do, but its quite a production, is since its a G4, just download a linux distrobution made for the power PC processor, and provided you have a flash drive, you could run the WINE windows emulator on it, and run HPT off the flash drive. Your biggest problem then, would be getting the HPT device recognized, and i do mean biggest.
No one said you had to run XP either. You can run Win 2K if you want. You can disable -a LOT- of services in XP to make it fast, infact i used to have a batchfile integrated into my unattended xp installations, to where i just pop the cd into my newly built computer, and it would install the rest and tweak itself. come back an hour and 1/2 later and you got a fast computer waiting for you at the desktop.
So, sure it could -probably- be done in linux if you're so inclined to find out how to get the MPVI recognized and installed on it.
gman --- mind sharing what services you routinely shut off?
Or the batch file (renamed.txt of course... heheh)
EC
no no no...its not renamed.txt.
But i shut off UPnP, auto updates, imapi cd burning, messenger, alerter and a few others i cant remember. Theres a few reg. tweaks too that some people gave me in an IRC room long ago.
Google a guy named Black Viper. He was one of the pioneer in "trial and error service disabling" and made a whole list on what you can kill and keep.
How dare you doubt me, you know im leet. I can run OSX on my PC. ^_^
EDIT: Click Here<Tells you how to make your custom batch.
Then you just edit your unattended.xml file on your xp cd, and reburn....or burn for the very first time, if you get my drift :-P
Download a copy of Parallels and see if you can run it in a VM (using some HPTuners friendly version of Windows).
www.parallels.com
I use Parallels and it rocks.
Tim
Thanks for the input guys.
I am using a friends PC right now.
But, I will need to figure this out soon.
I'll post any success or not when I get time to try it on the mac.

Thanks Gman!
Buy a $500 pc notebook... best thing you can do. IMO... and then when you run it over, like I did last weekend, you won't feel as bad as if it was your main notebook... hehe...
I also run Hp Tuners using Parallels and it rocks..
Im kinda wary to install vista on my laptop right now, since im unsure if hpt would even run. im not worried about using it to flash any vcm though...that would be stupid with an unstable OS. lol!
Vista's EULA is nasty! Make's XP's registration/authentication look like 3.1!
Microsoft is really going to alienate some corporate users with that EULA.
EC
...Theres no registration in mine ^_^Quote:

I'm thinking of giving my G4 iBook to my wife and getting a new MacBook with the Intel processor. I was hoping someone else would have already done this.........:banghead:Quote:

BootCamp is free but only in beta currently. It supports USB 2.0. It is definately the way to go as it will be very fast. Obviously you have to reboot your Mac into PC mode but since I would only be using it for HPT (I am a 22 year Mac enthusiast) that no biggy.
Still have to buy Windows. Anybody know cheapest place to get it??? I have never bought PC software in my entire life.:banghead:
Thanks....I am going to PM Soundengineer
