A4 Must-Do : Shift speed %TPS table
This puppy is why I bought the tool. Couldn't get at it
with the Predator, not the downshifts. Populating this
table with sensible values on the downshifts will turn
your car into a whole new beast. No more WOT-only
downshifts makes it, like, a driver's car.
If you look at the part-throttle upshift values they are
sort of linearly increasing, like makes sense for some
proportionate response to demand. But the kickdown
thresholds are flatlined at insanely low MPH except for
the 100% TPS cell. So you can't get it to kick without
it being floored.
I went and manually scaled the kickdown values to
"track" the upshift MPH values, offset by the same MPH
as the difference between WOT up and down. 2nd is
offset by -2, -4, -6MPH from the upshift value. So the
kickdown is now throttle-proportional, more pedal kicks
down earlier, just like if you had a TV cable TH350.
Yeah, baby. It rocks.
I would only do this to the Normal table. I applied it
to my Cruise table and it makes the cruise control run
in a lower gear. Odd, I guess it just "likes" the low
gear better but I am going to adjust it to be more like
stock in that table.
If we get upload space figured out I will put the table
up. Or I can email it as an Excel snippet to anyone who
PMs me for it.
Re: A4 Must-Do : Shift speed %TPS table
Can you email me a copy of this Jimmy? Thanks
Re: A4 Must-Do : Shift speed %TPS table
Yeah, I'd like to take a look at it as well, Jimmy. I was thinking of looking into doing this, but you beat me to it. :)

Re: A4 Must-Do : Shift speed %TPS table
There is an Excel sheet hosted (see the V-8 Misc section, Excel sheets
thread) that's pretty good. I have since moved on to higher force motor
table values, 3.42s, etc. but that stuff is still "pretty good for normal".
You would want to mess it around for your gearing and converter
particulars. A .bin that corresponds is also up on Horist's repository site.
The Excel was done in the days where you couldn't read / copy from other
model*year .bins.
Re: A4 Must-Do : Shift speed %TPS table
I think thats the table I adjusted and it helped me out a lot, I haven't really changed much else though
Re: A4 Must-Do : Shift speed %TPS table
OK, I just finished changing my part throttle shift points, I will check it tonight on the SS when I get home from work. I used Excel to calculate a linear shift point graph, I didn't really like the OE graph. Thanks to Jimmy for inspiring me to change it. I also made the downshift points lower in respect to the upshift points. Please note that the 100% TPS values in this table (Shift Speed vs %TPS vs Shift) are the ones you input in the WOT table (WOT Shift Speed vs Shift). If you alter the first table, be sure to copy and paste the 100% TPS values to your WOT table, and have the WOT Shift RPM vs Shift table match as well.
I will post up the results tonight of my experiment and the screen shot of what I just posted. :) Thanks again Jimmy!
Re: A4 Must-Do : Shift speed %TPS table
Jimmyblue,
I also scaled my upshift and downshift values vs TPS, since I was changing gears anyway. But I won't know how I did until next month when the snow's gone. Could you e-mail me a screenshot or something of your values, or 2d graph so I can compare them to how I did it? [email protected]
Thanks
Re: A4 Must-Do : Shift speed %TPS table
Here's my first attempt at it. Like I said, I can't fine tune until the snow's gone :(

Re: A4 Must-Do : Shift speed %TPS table
Thanks
I can see a few differences, but that's to be expected.
I'm shifting at 6550, so my WOT shift points are 5mph higher (for now).
And I'm considering not letting the TC lock up in 3rd. With 3.73's instead of 2.73's, I can't think of any around town driving where it'd really benefit me.
Re: A4 Must-Do : Shift speed %TPS table
Great post Jimmy! THis is why I bought HPT also. James didn't know how to fix this. So I messed with these tables (with some help from you & others) and got it figured out a while ago. What a BIG difference!
I wonder tho, what affect will the stall converter I'm putting in have on this? Or the vacuum modulator I'm putting on?
Re: A4 Must-Do : Shift speed %TPS table
anyone have a trans tune for a 6.0L boosted truck? i tried 12secss tune, it's ok, but, seems like it would be better for the "performance" tune aka "tow/haul" mode. shifts up and down way too much for my taste.
Re: A4 Must-Do : Shift speed %TPS table
Jimmy,
When you get some free time, could I get a copy of your excel spreadsheet? [email protected]
Thanks
Any updates on your new TC?
