FI 2005 Silverado L33 Thermostat Question 187 to 180 Require Fan Setting Changes?

Hello,

I have 130k miles on the truck and a spare 180?F T-Stat I've had since 2006 and never installed. I want to change it before it fails and leaves me road side.

If OE is 187?F and the spare is a 180?F and I swap it in would fan calibration settings need to be done

T-Stat shelf life?

Probably should be in Gen3 forum. And yeah, I'd adjust the fan on/off temps to the tstat.

Thanks, I was going by this "Forum: GM V8 Tuning - Engine, Gas (Gen 4) (2005-2015, LS2, LS7, ...)

Drop them all by 10?F?

Well if the tstat is 7 degrees colder, i dont think id do 10 lol. There are about a hundred threads on fan temps. It used to be a Sticky, but i didnt find it. Usually an 05 Silvy is a P59, which would be a Gen3.

Just drive it. You dont "HAVE" to change the Fan temps. When your moving the Coolant temp will stabilize, see what that temperature is.
Then decide on where to set the fans if you do change the temps.

Thanks, I'll search more. With only 7F difference it shouldn't be critical I guess.

I would not drop the fan temps. I would not install a 180 stat. This is not 1983. We aren't tuning cast iron headed small blocks. These engines are designed to run hot and run better hotter. Running them too cool actually causes problems in the long run.

Thanks, I was surprised to see the OE shown at 187F. I'll take said advise.

She has been demanding my attention lately. @100k I found a radiator hose bulged, changed them all. Recently seen a small trail of dried coolant on the front of the engine, probable WP or gasket.
In process now of determining if an oil leak is the rear main, or oil cooler in/outlet gasket, or crankshaft position sensor. And yesterday I completed changing the right front inner CV axle seal that made a mess.

All cleaned up now waiting for the test driving show and tell. She has been good to me. Purchased new and blower installed @5k miles she has been driven spirited constantly and trouble free.
