Hey all, I'm new here and trying to figure out what an acceptable amount of Knock Retard (if any) is okay for the 392 hemi? I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT and it shows 2.5* knock retard. I put different fuel in and a octane booster (3 numbers) and it got it down to 1.5* KR at WOT. I'd like to have zero if possible. Wondering if this is normal or what?
I plan on checking around the sensors to see if a heat shield is loose or something and then replacing the sensors if I have to
Do you have a data log to share? any mods done?
knock retard is dependant on the tune
what you want to be looking at is the voltage from each knock sensor
I am curios why voltage would be more important than total kr?
because the sensitivity is adjustable in the tune
KR might be zero (0) while the sensors are screaming for mercy +5v (pegged)
the sensor voltage tells you how loud the knock is
therefor his question shoulda been how much voltage is acceptable
KR tells you how much timing is being pulled for what is supposed to be knock
*start messing with cam tables (and make a mistake) and watch kr go nutz with minimal voltage at the knock sensors
That makes a lot of sense 5v kr through the roof ignition way to close to tdc. Knock through the roof low voltage start looking at valve timing and fuel air ratio its putting air somewhere it shouldn't be at that stroke or is a supper lean mixture causing ignition.Quote:
