Seadoo tuning + data logging questions

I'm at early stages to get into tuning a Seadoo and just a few questions.

1. With HPtuners what exactly do I require to tune a Seadoo? From my understanding I'll need a MPVI3 + the adapter cable for BRP. Once I'm done tuning do I leave the module in the Seadoo or can I take it with me and tune something else? How many times can I use it?

2. Can I tune and data log with the stock ECU or does that need to change? I would like to fit an O2 sensor but is it possible to run the gauge through the data logging or do I need a separate gauge that doesn't get logged? Does the sensor need to be removed once I am done tuning?

3. What else do I need to know to get into it, this is going to be my first time tuning so what could I do to help prevent major damage but also would like to practice. I have an RXP 215 with a few bolt ons that I can play around with but ideally will be getting a 300 for my final project.

My switch is still under factory warranty so I have yet to buy the credits. From what I can see from the stock file, it is really simple - reminds me of when I used HP Tuners 15 years ago for GM W-Bodies. The bar at what I am holding it against for "simple" is that I am learning to tune my 2016 VW passat with variable valve timing, all types of torque management and turbocharged.

My primary use case was to scan and erase codes. The BRP adapter + MPVI3 works great - you will need to use the beta scanner and editor software which can be installed alongside the production versions. Interestingly, I noticed I cannot disable certain emissions codes like P0420 for catalyst system efficiency (i.e., you remove the cat converter).

O2 Sensor? My switch (with the 230 supercharged rotax motor) comes with a pre and post cat wideband bosch O2 sensors from the factory. You can scan fuel trims there from what I can tell. Wish I had more to offer but I am in the very early stages. I am at 90 hours, once I hit 200 hours, I will buy and start playing with the timing/fuel tables.

you can't really do any actual tuning until you install a wideband O2 sensor in the exhaust.

So you have the BRP adapter + MPVI3 and you can use that on as many skis you would like? And I'm assuming you can use the MPVI3 on cars without the BRP adapter? Yes I have seen the two programs and they seem pretty user friendly to use.

Yeah it must be a new thing on the Switch, I haven't yet seen a Switch engine bay so I am unsure if they have one from factory, I know most of Seadoos dont currently have a factory sensor fitted.

Yeah I would of thought so! But do you know if I can install it into the factory ECU or do I need a standalone gauge that doesn't get logged? I'm not sure if that makes sense or not.

For scanning and clearing codes - yes. You have to buy credits if you want to make edits to the file.

They are both bosch wideband sensors, pre and post cat. They are not one wire old school narrowband sensors from the 90s. Curious what are folks getting by adding another dedicated wideband O2 sensor? Back in the day when I was tuning a Pontiac Grand Prix GTP (supercharged) I put a dedicated bosch wideband on the downpipe and used it for tuning purposes only to adjust fueling to truly see the air fuel ratio as the factory ECU ran on a narrowband o2 sensor was was incapable of truly reading AFR.

Oh cool I guess that becomes handy and makes the MPVI3 a bit more versatile!

I'm assuming a dedicated wideband will give a bit a more accurate reading, at this stage though I wouldn't be able to tell you haha! Are you more familiar in tuning cars? I'll love to start logging and see what things make a difference but I'm worried I'll do too much damage.

you'll need something like a PLX to interface into the MPVI3 for logging the AFR.

Right! I think that makes sense haha I did find a video on youtube about that, later on I?ll give it a watch to hopefully get a better understanding.
