10R80 Shift Map "Unknown: 0F"

I've noticed that after a cold start in very cold weather, my 2021 3.5EB F150 doesn't always follow the base shift schedule and often it feels like it's using the stock shift schedules for the first few miles. I logged it and when this occurs VCM scanner shows the current shift map as "Unknown: 0F", after a few miles in the normal drive mode this will switch to "base". If I switch to the sport drive mode, my truck uses the sport shift map and I have no issues with the "Unknown: 0F" shift map being used.

I checked a few other 2018-2021 model year 10R80 files and it doesn't look like my tune file is missing anything obvious as far as shift schedules are concerned. If anyone could provide some guidance on how to make the "Unknown: 0F" shift map match my base shift map, or prevent the normal drive mode from using the "Unknown: 0F" shift map, it would be greatly appreciated. Probably inferred grade or cooling reduction.

It's not inferred grade 1, inferred grade 2, cooling reduction 2, or cooling reduction 3.

Is there a cooling reduction 1 shift schedule that's missing? I've checked 11 different tune files for 2018-2021 F150s and Mustangs, none of them show a cooling reduction 1 shift schedule or any shift schedule that is missing compared to what I can see in my tune file.

For the most 10r tunes I did cold map is always inferred grade 1. Not sure about 21 they change things all the time.

Scanner will never display the ship map besides base and sport and sometime TC - gotta go blind

On my 2021 VCM Scanner shows the current shift map bounce between base, inferred grade 1, and inferred grade 2 as I drive around in the normal drive mode. The "Unknown: 0F" shift map does appear to be some sort of warmup map based upon when it gets used, I just don't see any obvious way to modify it or prevent the normal drive mode from using it.

I suppose I could try shifting through all the different drive modes to see if the "Unknown: 0F" shift map appears in any other situations outside of a cold start. Maybe I'll get lucky and find that the shift map that VCM Scanner can't identify is something silly like the cruise control map that got added for the 2021+ F150s.

Not sure as I haven't locally tuned a 21 plus yet, but I know on other 10r80 tables I get in the habit of making base, eco, ABS, DSC, Snow, and Inferred Grade 1 all the same. Like veeefour though it seems usually the inferred grade tables are the culprit

Unfortunately the weather warmed up just enough that I haven't been able to look into this much further, but I noticed that the ECO drive mode uses the base shift map and not the ECO shift map shown in VCM Editor. I copied my base shift maps and TCC maps over to the various ECO parameters, now I just need a good cold snap to see if this solves my issue. I already have ABS, DSC, Cooling Reduction 2, Cooling Reduction 3, Inferred Grade 1, and Inferred Grade 2 set to match base. I'd have to double check, but I think I have 4x4 set to match it too.

Yeah the ECO shift map in 21 and newer stuff makes no sense to me. Doubt it is ever referenced.

I got around to looking at a 21 file and nothing sticks out. TOT of 86 is required to activate "alternate" shift schedules, but normal mode is set to 0. Unless "0" is still technically an alternate shift type and there is some hidden shift schedule for cold shifting in the mean time.

Just for poop and laughter, put base table values in all the tables and see if it still does it. If it does, maybe submit a ticket to HPT and see if there is a hidden table somewhere for cold shifting.

I'm not sure how low the temperature has to be for this cold shift schedule to activate, but once I hit a TFT of 68F my truck starts using the base and inferred grade shift schedules. I tried setting all the shift schedules to match my base schedule and adjusting ECM 20047 but it didn't make any difference.

At this point I've submitted a ticket to HPT Support, I just have to hope that enough people complain about this to get it looked at sooner rather than later or I won't be able to verify a fix until next winter when it gets cold enough again.

I'm currently in the process of adding the missing tables (there are cold tables for upshift, downshift, coastdown, TCC lock, TCC unlock, and TCC slip), along with a handful of other new parameters to all 2021+ F-150s. I should have this added for you by the end of the week.

I got the chance to try making some changes to the newly added cold parameters in the shift scheduling and torque converter apply/release tabs, and everything seems to be working as intended on my 2021 3.5EB F150. VCM Scanner recognizes the cold shift map now, and my truck no longer abruptly downshifts as it transitions from the cold map to the base map.

OOOO this is an exciting update! I wonder if they made the changes to 17-20 trucks too. Cold shifting is one of the biggest customer complaints.

I've got a ticket in to get these same cold tables added to my 2020. Hopefully they will apply them to all 17-20 trucks.

Update, heard back from HPT and unfortunately 2017-2020 10 speed trucks will not be able to use the cold tables.

Do you have a tune and log to share here?

I have hundreds, lol, but HP Tuners support said the tables I was looking for cant be added on the particular TC-298 PCM 2020 F150 that I was working with
