New tuner here - 2016 Tahoe stock / 1st tune

Hello and thank you all in advance! I have read through countless threads on here and watched many of the videos some of you have shared links for. I have a stock 2016 Tahoe with 5.3L and 6 speed trans. I know without question I want to disable DoD, I have that much figured out. Besides that, all I am after is a more responsive pedal, crisper shifts, and maybe lessen that 'hunting for the right gear' situation. I am attaching my tune here and I have all my notes listed here. I guess what I'm asking is do my tune changes align with my goals? I am changing anything that I will regret later? I am changing anything that will shorten the life of the transmission. 2016 Tahoe 5.3L HP Tuner Changes

? Engine:
o Power Enrich Delay RPM ; Dropped from 5000 to 4000 rpm
o Power Enrich Enable Torque ; Dropped from 60 to 50% entire table
o Power Enrich Enable Pedal ; Dropped from 89 to 65 entire table
o DoD ? Was enabled, now Disabled
o Torque Management; Driver Demand Map A ; Normal: Increased values 5% for Pedal Position 16 thru 62% only across entire table

? Trans:
o Used Tire/Gear wizard to input current size tires-Changed various settings throughout
o Torque Converter; General; TCC Pressure; Desired Pressure ? upped entire table by 5%
o Use DoD Slip: Disable (DoD is already disabled, but did this for extra confidence)
o Torque Converter; Apply/Release:
 Normal Apply ; 318 entire table for 1st, 2nd, 3rd
 Normal Release ; 315 entire table for 1st, 2nd, 3rd
 Pattern A Apply ; 318 entire table for 1st, 2nd, 3rd
 Pattern A Release ; 315 entire table for 1st, 2nd, 3rd

I'd lower the rpm enable to 2,500rpm, use the pedal to control PE. The 65% you have is a good spot.

Lower the PE EQ ratio. Stock is very rich, you can lean out the fuel mixture a little bit. At 3,328rpm is 1.220, just make the whole rest of the table to redline that same value. That will lean it out some and still be safe.

The transmission can have more changes made. I'd lower the slip rpm down to like 5-8rpm in the gears you have it active.

The transmission shifts you can make faster. And I would play with the shift speeds so it won't hunt the gears as much. I raise the 5th and 6th shift speed way up. I don't like 5th gear happen until over 40mph and 6th gear at 50mph.


I think this tune I made for a guy has some changes to the shift timing to use for reference. The shift speeds and stuff I wouldn't copy because this truck had big rims and wheels.

I do not 0 slip on these stock verter gen 5s anymore. 90% of the time it makes shudder worse or creates it where there wasnt any. Similar to what is stated above i fill the tables with values from 3-5, raise the regulator psi, raise the apply ramp. Try setting the regulator parameter with psi(cant remember if gain or offset) to 45 for a start. Start small on the apply ramp, i usually find myself cranking this up quite a bit though. Unlock the converter at wot, unlock converter in any gear below 4.

People starting out on these are at a disadvantage. I began my journey on a 2000 blazer 4.3. The vortec blackbox had plenty of parameters to change for a new guy.

Hey I just want to verify the lingo here - when you say "unlock the converter at wot" you're saying set TC apply / release tables to 318? and when you say any gear below 4, do you mean include 4th gear or just 1st 2nd and 3rd?

something that has confused me since the start with this - if you set the apply / release tables to max, is this telling the vehicle to never use the TCC Desired Slip? Like if you max out that table, how/when is it still using the TCC Desired slip?

Lockup in 4-6, set wot tcc tables to 300+ mph. Here is a 2017 yukon i just did a email tune on for example.
