Warning Warranty
Ok my friend took his truck in for a seat belt issue it is a 2008 LMM Flashed back to stock before he went in GM has voided all future warrenty work due to having a tune in the history. The Service manager said they are checking every LMM to see if there is anything in history they are voiding all warrenty l guess that mean no more tuning the LMM OR YOU WILL KISS YOUR WARRANTY GOODBYE
-
they would have a hard time backing up their case if your friend wanted to put up a stink about it.
-
yes l agree they would have a hard time and actually ha is putting up a fight and will win

LOL you expect GM to warranty the engine/tranny after he has reprogrammed the ECM?? You play YOU pay. Once you start modding you take the warranty in your hands. Not sure what the name of that law is but the car company has to prove that the mod is what caused the problem. How hard is it gonna be to read the ECM and prove it has been altered? Only way would have been to buy a backup ECM and flash it and keep the stock one stock!!

This has been known information for almost 2 years. He won't win, well, if he has engine damage, they won't cover it.
The duramax also may have mileage and/or hours in the ecm.

They can't deny the seat belt due to a reflash. Only the drivetrain. They have to prove that the reflash caused the error to deny the claim.
-
correct, but powertrain warranty is likely to point to the power up device as the cause.

mileage and/or hours may be stored in the ecm ;)

On any newer GM truck/car the service department can tell by comparing the calibration IDs in the "ECU" vs the part# its should have.
On the LMM go one step farther you have CVN Numbers witch you can tell every time the vehicle is programed factory or not kinda like an odometer
And with GM having no money trust me there checking every every thing!
Were I work they make us look any engine ls or lmm up be for any work is done. ps it pays .1 lol
#08-06-04-006G: Identifying Non-GM ECM Calibration Usages and Power-Up Hardware Detection for Duramax Diesel Engines-Photograph Tech 2 Calibration IDs and CVNs and Trans Data Screen Before Removing Engine/Trans - (Nov 9, 2009)
Note: BEFORE authorizing any Duramax™ diesel engine or transmission replacement, the PQC will require digital photographs of the following Tech 2® screens:
• For RPOs LLY and LBZ only: Calibration ID Numbers and Verification Numbers from the Vehicle Information screen
• For RPO LMM only: Calibration ID Numbers and Verification Numbers from the Vehicle Information AND the Programming History screen.
• For RPO LMM only: Transmission Data screen containing the Max Transmission Calc Engine Torque parameter.
Symptoms Caused by Aftermarket Power-up Kit
Some customers may have reprogrammed the engine control module (ECM) with a non-GM released calibration. The Power-Up Kit engine calibration changes fueling and timing parameters and likely contributes to the following vehicle conditions:
• Poor performance
• Driveability concerns
• Increased emissions
• Black smoke (This symptom is not valid for the Duramax™ diesel engine RPO LMM equipped with the exhaust particulate filter. The filter will trap black smoke unless it is cracked, melted or has been removed from the exhaust system.)
• Knocking noise
• Engine damage (Refer to Corporate Bulletin Number 06-06-01-007C for additional information.)Note: BEFORE authorizing any Duramax™ diesel engine or transmission replacement, the PQC will require digital photographs of the following Tech 2® screens:

Highest torque value is recorded in the TCM--check your TSB's. They also look at that value, regardless if all CVN's are stock.
There are 'harness' plug-in devices that can cause more damage than a properly calibrated custom tune.
Thanks to the idiots that race their diesel and think that GM should pay the bill when parts go south have ruined it for everyone.

how about replacing the computer and tuning that one, then when you need work done, put the stocker back in?
