How hard is to to learn the software?

I have running this around for a few months. Have an 02 T/A that I am setting up for drag race only. I have had it tuned by a great tuner, Rick at Synergy Motorsports, Fremont, Ca, but have to trailer the car there (5 hours round trip driving only).
Now I am putting in a TH400 with a contender electric shifter set to shift using rpm pills and will have to have it tuned again. (side note, with the TH400 what will I have to do to the VCM to let it know I went from and A4 to the TH400 set up the way I have it)
I was wondering from those of you that are starting out, is HPTuners software easy to use and how long is the learning curve, before you can really reach a level of a "tuner".
I would love to have the ability at the drag strip to play with different parameters to try and squeeze a little off the ET.
Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

If your car was originally an Auto, you would only have to put a Manual calibration in it and copy the mods from your tuner to make it work.

EC Thanks for the reply, sounds pretty straight forward and I assume there is some directions with the software to lead me throught it or something on this site to help me?

We also have a Race only setup, you could just disable all the codes of the trans. That is what we did initailly, we now have on our 1998 Z28 A4, a 2001 M6 bin/ECM. :)

Mike, you are correct, its not hard. In fact if you were to bring it back down, I would not be retuning it, just deleting the codes you would find since your 4L60E is gone. Thats all.

Rick as soon as I get it done I will be back down to have you deal with it. Need to talk with you about how I can tune at the track if possible. I have not received my 12 bolt yet and my tranny is due in next week (went through an old buddy at Hughes when I had the off road shop and he gave me a smokin' deal. I will be gone from the 14th to 30th of April, so need to set something up for the 1st of May with you. I will check with you before I leave.
