I was wondering what is so different about the 2016 Q5 TDI ECU that it is not supported by the Editor / Scanner today? Any clues? It seems that the same year and model but gas version is read just fine.

Probably not much. I guess HPT are focused on the US market models which are mainly gasoline.
Sad indeed ...
B8/B8.5 2.0T and 3.0T have Simos ECU and the TDI has Bosch EDC17 which is completely different.
