Do not read anything from the vehicle after the new trans is in. You don't want anything that's already in the new TCM. You want to put your old file (just the TCM) into the new one. When you go to write it, pick 'do not write' for ECM, and 'write entire' for TCM.
Why do any of that? Why try convert a trans specifically made (and priced, I'm assuming) to be a stand-alone thing for high-dollar hot rods into a non-stand-alone? Sell it to some rich guy and buy a normal reman transmission and use the leftover money for a vacation or something.Quote:

Completed successfully. Never asked for, or mentioned credits - just wrote the file. Took 5-6 minutes which seems correct for a full write. I assume I am good? Just a little concerned that it didn't ask for me to buy a credit...
Swapping out only the TCM and writing a file you've already licensed doesn't need more credits. Can't do that with the ECM though, that breaks the license.
Apparently, according to what HPT has said here, it would be possible to flash an unlimited number of T42s or T43s with your custom tunes, as long as you had a license for the file you were writing. I'm not endorsing that, but they could have made it not work that way if they'd wanted to, so...

So then I guess I am good. The trans did have a bright orange tag that said it had a dyno test cal in it which IIRC we discussed before had the necessary bootloader to get an HPTuner write to work so I am not too concerned with how it all went. I was surrised about the credit thing since everyone I've talked to thinks the ECU serial number is tied to the credit and since I changed to a different ECU with a different serial we all assumed it would need a credit.
No worries though and I can't thank you enough for your help!
You changed the TCM (transmission) which does not have its serial number tied to the license. If you change the ECM (for the engine) it will prompt you for credits. Your license is a combo of the ECM serial number and your tune file.

I have a 2021 with a T43 TCM, however I can not get HPT to read the TCM in order to turn lock-up off in 1st-4th gear. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hey, sorry for the really delayed reply, my wife got a wild hair and we moved to Wa state since then.. I had my 6l80 rebuilt about 2 weeks after this post and nailed the tuning thanks to all your help. I recently, just as of this past weekend figured out the TQ management and it's not pulling out any more timing.Quote:
