E41 ECM Read Failed
I have a 2019 L5D and the MVPI3. Everything is connected properly, and I am connected to the internet. When I try the initial read, the VCM Editor fails to retrieve flash data. I have tried different PCs and gotten the same error. Also, I attempted to read the ECM with the TDN app and i got a "Convert seed to key, failed" error. I have submitted a ticket already and am waiting for a response. Does anyone know what will cause the editor to fail to retrieve the flash data from HP tuners?

Far as i know, these are write only ECU's. So based on your vin HPT generates the stock file for you to start. So its not reading out your calibration per se
As for why it fails, that i am unsure and HPT would be best to address i'd say.

I?m having the same issue on my 2020 Duramax, I have the MPVI 2+ and the GM E41 unlock kit. Did you figure out why yours was not reading ?
-
Hey guys! I am having this same issue. Has anyone come up with the solution?
-
Resync your device and check to make sure it has not been disabled.

For everyone having issues.. i have seen multiple people NOT put the red and white wire in the correct location on the ECM fuse.. Or using the wrong fuse all together. 2017-19 are a different fuse than the 20+
Also make sure the batteries are good and charged
Internet needs to be GOOD

im having issue reading l5p dmax its a 2018 says failed to retrieve flash data i beleive unlocker is installed correctly resynced and retried many times no go . good hotspot connection via my phone. latest beta software. im stumped. whats going on????:banghead:

You have to have a a very good internet.
I have tried 3 different phones hotspots and none of them worked right.
If the data being transferred to HPTuners servers doesn?t go fast enough it will fail.
Connect to a good WiFi and attempt to try it again.
If the red/white fuse wire is in the correct orientation and on the correct fuse that would be my guess.
Maybe post pictures of how you have everything set up that might help.
Maybe a video would help us help you.

Did anyone figure out this problem. I am having the same issue. I have hardwired Internet, a brand new MPVI3 and a brand new E-41 unlock box. Fuse cable is in the correct position red wire in the middle and white wire closest to the firewall (2017 l5p) key is on. I have a good battery voltage, but when I run the VCM editor it just keeps saying failed.

so the issue i had was the file for the truck i was trying to tune wasnt loaded into hptuners cloud. i submitted a support ticket and called them up and they made a file for the truck and emailed it to me .

If you're still having issues ensure you are using the latest beta version + .NET Desktop Runtime Windows x64 (resync) and it should work.

I am having the same issues as the op. 2017 GMC L5P. The vehicle reader reads the vin and I receive a message that it failed to retrieve flash data. I am trying to unlock the pcm.

Check a few things:
1. you are using the latest VCM Editor Beta
2. you have a really good internet connection
3. your account on HPTuners website to make sure your device is still valid
4. resync your interface
-
I just uninstalled and reinstalled VCM editor Beta along with the .Net runtime. I have not tried a wired internet connection but have 4 wireless bars. Device is valid and shows 8 credits.

Its a virtual read anyway. What is your OS or VIN? I can send you the stock read if I have it.
-
OS is 12709843. Vin is 1GT41XCY6HF194146. Is there a way to post a pic? So I can show you what I am getting. From what I have gathered after the stock file is read this is where you license the software and use the credits. This is my first time trying to unlock an E41. Thank you for your help
-
HPTuners will download a virtual read of your ECM that matches the segments for your OS. Once it is downloaded, you can write that to your ECM. It will require you to use credits (8) to unlock and write the stock virtual read file back. From there, you can edit your stock read and then write again.
You will need the E41 unlock kit to unlock and write your stock OS the first time. After that, you only need your MPVI

HPTners support did exactly what slimmons2009 said above and it unlocked the ECM as it should have. Thanks for you help.

You're welcome! Let me know if you need a file for your vehicle.
