I desperately wanted to t56 swap it. but I could only find 100,000+ mile t56's for more than the built th400 and new t56 for over 3 grand. I figured at that point I'de be better off to buy a new built th400 for 1400 bucks from summit. Slap a 200$ 3k summit stall in it. And with a fairly large trans cooler I managed to get from work built for a freightliner. It will long outlast the 170+ thousand mile engine in there. You are right though despite everything I'm doing to the truck. I AM taking all the fun and sport out of driving.
-
I get one of my other trucks done.ill prob rebuild my NV3500. Been kinda keeping an eye out for a spare one
-
Well finished the 4L80E swap decided against the th400 as I wanted lockup and overdrive. you guys said it, now my truck is BORING! I believe I made the right choice for longevity and consistency. But even with the stall flashing to around 2800. The fun factor just isn't there anymore. I think its time for some giggle gas to make first gear not seem so anemic. with the 3.42 gears a 2.48 trans ratio and 28" tires its coming out of first just before 60mph.

Small update installed the mini spool today. That took a whopping hour, checked my ring and pinion while I was in there and was pleasantly satisfied with the lack of wear. my spider gears took the brunt of it as they were pretty worked. No doubt all the material on my magnet was from those poor spiders. Hoping to make it to the opening night of test n tunes at my local track tomorrow.
Wanting to put down a 14.70 run post 4l80e swap. Trying to beat my previous best of 14.96@95 with the nv3500. If I can cut a good 60' I might have a chance.
-
Is your truck 4wd? I would consider that to be a pretty decent time for a pickup.
-
Nah I'm 2wd, that 14.96 was with the peg leg open diff. Spinning off the line, spinning going into second, and leaving probably a 20' tire mark smacking third around the 1/8 mile. If it were still nv3500 ide be hoping for a 14.50.
The truck runs very well in my opinion. I put it on the scales often at my work. Full interior and a me in the truck with a full tank of fuel it's 4660-4680 after the 4l80e swap.
I have no problem walking a new 1/2 ton chevy with a tune. Actually had one try to run me yesterday i started a truck back when he got the jump at 60 we pulled up to atleast 120. I ended up one truck length ahead when I shut it down. No doubt he had a programmer or a custom tune on that truck.
-
Nice and light then, I'm jealous haha I probably weigh around 6k. I'm sure you'd walk me haha
Sounds like a fun time though.
-
The truck is alot of fun, My wife absolutely loves it. And drives it just as hard as I do. I on the other hand am always left wanting more. I'm used to it now but it'll probably stay like this for a while. My wife's 86 short wide is going to get all the attention. Seriously contemplating the summit racing efi 500 system. As the rochester on it is currently having some issues.
-
That's awesome! Haha I know what you mean though, I'm constantly messing with me stuff. It's really hard to quit lol
I haven't owned a carbed vehicle vehicle for a few years, but after really getting used to efi I'm not sure I could go back.
-
Worst night at the track ever. let's just say I didn't get any decent runs in. blew an exhaust clamp off my header collector burned some wires. Got that fixed went to make another pass and the truck fell on its face after 4500 rpm. For some reason this distributor kills caps lately. Maybe it's time for a coil per cyl swap, Or a new distributor. Other than that both my tires spin now lol
-
Damn that sucks. At least the spool worked haha how does that spool handle on the street? Scrubbing tires around corners?
I wish I'd have know about the coil per cyl last time I had my engine apart, it would have been a nice upgrade as I fight plug wires sometimes too. At least yours should be doable since you're 2wd.
-
The mini spool acts how I suspected it would, tight turns feel a little binded. But nothing that bothers me more than I can handle. I don't run 200+ dollar tires so i can deal with the tires glazing over a bit. Luckily the thrust angle of my rear diff is damn close to centered so the front end doesn't feel pushed at all while traveling down the highway. Honestly it feels a bit better than it had before going straight down the highway. As it was pretty twitchy because I have my evo (electronically variable oriface) sensor unplugged.
-
Nice, glad to hear it works well.
-
Whats this distributor and cap thing you speak of.
I done the CPC on mine and its been flawless. Will never run an L31 with a distributor again. I was changing caps and rotors every few months. Shit got old
-
Yup old for sure I've got some doner coil packs with harness and brackets acquired. Just need to get the rest of the parts, and since the truck is down due to a trans failure at the moment I'm going to try the cpc swap to end this crap. I swear the hei on my wife's 86 short wide gives us less trouble than the system on my truck that's 11 years newer.
-
If your still looking for all the parts to go coil per cylinder, let me know. I just pulled my motor out and going to a 5.3. I have coils, stock brackets that I cut to fit on stock valve covers, have the valve covers, new timing cover, the reluctor, sensor, aluminum dist with the cap.
-
I am interested but currently in the middle of starting up a shop. so money is spent elsewhere for the next month or so. maybe if you have the stuff laying around in a couple months ill beInterested in taking them off your hands.
-
I should have it.
I just picked up a 6.0 for mine.

Oleblu,
I'm looking at doing a '99 Vortec 350 swap into a '93 S10 pickup and convert it to a MPFI setup similar to you by using an Edelbrock Victor EFI manifold (part #29145) with the matching Edelbrock EFI fuel rail (part #3631) and pressure regulator (part #17401). I am also going to install an Edelbrock 102 deg Elbow (part #3847) with it oriented to the drivers side of the engine and install an LS1 throttle body onto it. I plan to use the 0411 GM ECU with initial '01 5.7 Express Van tune on it for initial startup and then tune it on a dyno. Are there any pointers for tuning this setup that you recommend from your conversion. Also, can you show me the details of what you did for the CPC individual coil per cylinder swap you mentioned in this thread? Pictures of that would also help!
