J2534 Passthrough
Hello,
I?m trying to find a device that I can use with the Roush Data Tool. It says it needs a J2534 pass through device to flash the PCM with the Roush tune. My end goal is to back up the factory tune with the HP Tuner and transfer to computer. Use the pass through to flash the PCM, then back that up the PCM again and transfer to computer. So in the event something goes wrong I can put the factory tune on for warranty repair or updates, and then put the Roush tune back on.
Can I use the HP Tuner to be a J2534 pass-through device?
This would be on a 2017 F150 3.5 ecoboost

I found some old posts from 2010 saying it wasn't able to be used as a passthrough, my question is does that still hold true? Alternatively, is there already an upload in the repository for a 2017 F150 3.5 ecoboost Roush tune?

I was just informed the pass-thru would not work. Still hoping to get a copy of the Roush level 1 2017 3.5l ecoboost tune.

Most custom tunes for Fords are sent with a SCT programmereither a X4 or a BDX. Both devices can receive a custom tune and backup your factory tune with the ability to restore it later.

I?ve read that once you backup your file to the computer it backs up to a different file format, and that you have to send that file off to SCT in order to get it converted. Also, I was told it wouldn?t allow you to backup 2 files. I would want to backup the factory tune and the Roush tune in the event I had to return it to stock.
The Roush tune is a different animal, they make you use their program RDT with a pass-thru device to flash your PCM. It doesn?t download the file to a computer, it passes it directly through.
