2012 5.7 Procharged ... Broken Piston

Stock 5.7 with a pump gas Pro charger setup. Did the install 2 years ago (5,000 miles), engine runs good, tune is close. Broke a piston either first time out this spring or last time out last fall. Suspect it was this spring and was related to pump gas that was 6 months old.

Engine is all stock with only 21,000 miles on it, 5,000 boosted. Looking for recommendations on what Pistons to put back in it and anything else that should be done to it. Customer has no desire for more boost, just wants it to be reliable. Thanks

Go with some MMX or HHP drop ins. Believe MMX even sells JUST the forged pistons designed to be used with factory rods/crank.

Bummer! You are the 3rd procharger build I have read about (2 other guys on the challenger forum) over the past month with a damaged piston. Just out of curiousity what octane fuel were you running?

BTW - I don't think MMX offers just drop in pistons for 5.7

Good catch - tho i don't think the Manley's HHP sells are drop in, just various forged options to couple with a rod that needs to be balanced.

Uh, sarcasm???

MMX piston-only version don't need balancing, they are made to match factory weights/tolerances. MMX piston and rod also don't require balancing, they are made to factory weight/tolerance and when used with a stock crank are technically "balanced" by spec.

HHP you posted are just forged pistons, not drop ins, need to be balanced with whatever rod and crank you choose.

No sarcasm at all, I was being 100% genuine in my response. You post up a lot of great info and knowledge.

Its a friends car, I just did the install, and get to fix it now.
He has been using Non-ethanol 91 octane. Its just a driver, and doesnt get ran hard very often. After talking to him today, his last time out with it last fall was in November. Were in the mid-west and have winter blend fuel by October. Sounds like the damage was done last fall before it was parked for the winter.

Dropped the engine off at the machine shop today.

New question.... Is there much to be gained from installing factory Hellcat exhaust manifolds and deleting the Cats? The car has a cat back system on it now.

How much timing were you running?

I did this install over 2 years ago, it was a "standard" tune from Procharger. I didnt even have HpTuners at the time, so I have never looked at the tune, just monitored the fuel via the Wideband.
It will be going on the chassis dyno and getting a complete tune after the engine repair.
Do you have suggestions on timing for this engine?
