3100 pcm question

Short story, Im looking to convert a OBD1 3.1MPFI engine over to use a 97 or later year 3100 PCM (i.e. Lumina) so I can tune via HPT. The 3.1 MPFI uses only a 7x crank sensor. I can easily add the 24x crank sensor that the 3100 uses, but the 1x cam sensor is the hurdle. Main question is can the 3100 PCM run an engine missing the cam sensor signal? I know about 3000rpm (appx) the 3100 goes from SFI to MPFI so I know the PCM should support MPFI with no problem.

I can add a 1x cam signal but quite frankly that is quite a bit of work.

turn off reporting for the cmps might be all that is needed.
