2017 8 Speed/Allison Supported!

HP Tuners is proud to release limited tuning support for the T87A equipped 2017 GM 8-Speed and Allison A1000 in VCM Suite 3.5 beta.

This release provides the first and only 8-Speed/Allison transmission tuning solution for 2017 GM Vehicles. We've worked tirelessly to provide a solution for customers who have a critical need to tune these transmissions. Due to added complexity, the T87A TCM needs to be individually licensed for 4 GM credits for tuning.¹

Please note, due to increased security, ALL T87A TCMs need to be unlocked via the GM Unlock service before they can be tuned. More information on this new process can be found below:

HP Tuners is proud to release a TCM Unlock service that enables tuning on 2017 T87A TCMs. The cost for the service is $200 and can be purchased through the Order Page near the bottom of the page.


Once ordered, please ship your TCM to the following address for unlock:

When you send in the TCM, you MUST include the following:

1. Customer Name
2. Customer Address
3. Customer Contact Information (E-mail/Phone)
4. TCM Unlock Service Order #
5. Vehicle Identification Number
6. Preferred shipping method²

If the information above is not provided with the TCM, it may delay the TCM Unlock process while the missing information is acquired.


NOTE: The TCM you send in should already be programmed prior to the unlock service. If you choose to send in a spare TCM, you are responsible for providing us accurate vehicle information at the time you place your order and for later having the TCM programmed via a J2534 tool or OEM Dealer Diagnostic tool to your vehicle.

After the TCM arrives at HP Tuners, an HP Tuners engineer will unlock the TCM and enable your HP Tuners software so that the TCM can then be licensed, edited, and flashed with HP Tuners software! This is a one-time unlock that will not affect other operations of the TCM. The factory tools will still work for service and HP Tuners will then work for tuning!

We will unlock TCMs as fast as we can, but please allow 1 - 3 business days (plus the time to ship the TCM) per TCM that you send in for the unlock process to finish. (i.e. 2 PCMs = 2-6 business days.)

Once you receive the TCM back from unlock, re-install the TCM back into the vehicle and then you may tune the TCM with HP Tuners by licensing the TCM for 4 credits. If need to purchase one of our tuning interfaces, the GM Pro VCM Suite is $649, it comes with the interface, VCM Suite, 8 GM Credits and can also be ordered here: Order Page

Great news! GM is really making everything harder for us, keep up the good work.

So this applies to all 2017 8 speeds across the board? Camaros trucks etc

Yes, all 8 speed.

$200 to unlock and another $200 to license?

That is correct. The enhanced security in these modules have made it nearly impossible to custom tune, yet we've made it a possibility, such as it is.

Anyone know where the tcm is located on a 2017 Camaro?

edit: I am being told it is below the passenger headlight.

Does this mean that all 8spds prior to 2017 can also be tuned? Just for clarification?

They use a different TCM and have been tunable for quite a while now.

Having to remove the TCM and sending it in for me is a problem. I think if this continues for next generations to come your sales are going suffer. Hopefully your technology will catch up and sending it in won't be a requirement.

More often than not, it requires a physical change in order to allow read/write. There is unfortunately no way around this, and deffinately not hpt's fault. The only work around I guess would be if you have another source to physically unlock the ecm

Agree, definitely not HPT fault but the problem could impact their sales unless an easier means is found for tuning the new transmissions. If it's a physical/mechanical change then I would assume with proper instructions the end used could make the change, order the credits and tune away!

Is there any reason that another TCM cannot be purchased, sent in and then swapped out so as to minimize downtime? And then how many different TCMs are there? Does the Camaro work in a truck and vice versa?

no reason you couldn't. That's typically what I try to convince my customers to do.
