2007 tune write problem

Searched here for a solution and found only one thread that was identical to the issue at hand but no resolution was posted up.

Background... son in laws truck, bought it about 2 years ago and had an unknown tuner on it. He used a smarty S06 that I had for a while but it was too rattly in certain areas and wanted to switch over to HPT since I have it. First attempt at a read said the ECM was locked. Ordered up a recovery file for the S06 and did the update. Got it unlocked and was able to do the read ad generated the stock file. Attempt to write the generated file back into the ECM and gets to the "validating" stage and hangs.

Did anyone ever get a resolution to this problem?
