"Normal" and "Performance" Mode
I see these all over the place but have no idea how the
car decides which one it's in.
For example, the pressure tables are quite different
between the two, all "90" in "Performance" and a soft
slope table in "Normal".
Can someone explain how the trans control "decides"
to be in "Performance" mode (there is no "Sport" button
on my shifter :P)?
I would like it if I could force D to be "Performance"
and OD to be "Normal" by the shifter position but I
reckon it is what it is, and I just need to understand
what it is.
Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
Through a button switch. otherwise it iwll use Normal tables and kickdown tables..
Oopss.. sorry never mind... im not allowed to answer any questions... its probably incorrect what i said ;)
Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
I'm sure since it's an SS, it's always in Performance
mode ;)
Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
No.. easy way to verify it is ... change 1mph less in the shiftpoints and see where it shifts ;)
There is a kit that adds it... it goes in a pin to the PCM and I know you can make your own. ALl you need is a switched 12v.
I used those settings for track racing where I want my rpms up top all the time.
What mods you have? I have a nice tune that made over 30rwhp on a car I reprogrammed. (z06 btw)
Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
I would really like to add a switch that controls a 2-mode
transmission (shifts and TCC apply). But I see no such
(obviously labeled) pin on my PCM pin list though there
are a bunch of "Not Used" ones that could still be live
and listening to "zero". What is the signal name or
Conn/Pin you used?
I have fairly low / simple mods, intake tract and
suspension stuff for the most part, a 3000RPM TCI
converter (that needs some TCC pressure and idle
surge massaging). No cam or headers though I'm
getting the itch to find a cheap used set of MACs to
open things up a little. Still hanging onto the extended
warranty so I'm not being too aggressive with the
hardware.
Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
Do a search on google and other camaro forums.. specially camaroz28.com about that switch... I think it was also ls1tech.com where it was... not sure... I know it has been done because some Camaro/Firebird/Corvette had it.
Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
Went through the searching, and it appears select was
only on LT-1 F-bodies and only a couple of years. But
the trucks have a tow/haul mode so maybe it's still
lurking on the PCM connector somewhere. I guess I'll
post up over at LS1Tech and see if anyone's found the
"handle" on F-bodies.

I'm still waiting on Helm to release the 2004 service manuals for my truck. After I get that I should be able to post the wiring diagrams for the tow/normal mode switch to see what it plugs into.

Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
I have alldata 2004... let me know your truck to see if the diagrams are there...
Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
It is a 2004 GMC Sierra 5.3l, 4x4, automatic.

Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
Therefore based on what your saying the table to modify is the "Normal table".
Jimmyblue please post if you find more info about a performance setting switch. That would be cool, have a track setting for shift points and more aggressive timing / fuel.
I think if you had a cutout you that would be a good switch to use. Open the cut out for KILL mode.
Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
There are no timing tables changes with a switch.. only transmission.
Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
hey there, it is possible to make a timing modification switch.. it is very easy. all you do is make a switch with either a set resistor value , or a variable ohm rheostat and hook it in line of your intake air temp sensor, then all you do is modify your iat vs load table to the values you want in the spot your resister is on, and poof.... a magic timing adjustment switch.. this works excellent on big shot dry nitrous cars.. except you dont need a switch on those, you just spray thru the iat sensor and measure the temp it hits while on the juice and make your changes in that zone.... :) just a thought. :)
Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
also i forgot to add, that if you dont have a performance button, the pcm only uses the normal table, and the cruise control table. the other "performance settings" are never used and are just filled in with a max number that is never hit..
that 90 setting is just there to fill it in.. 90 wouldnt be very healthy for a transmission .....
Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
So on the trucks, yr '03 4L65E in particular, did we decide, does performance mode = tow haul mode? Anyone?
Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
Yes. Tow/Haul is the same button.

Ken, are there hard minimum limits that are implemented then? For instance, with Edit, I can make the Perf mode exactly the same as the normal mode... but I still get 1st gear almost 20mph more than normal, and 2nd is up to 45, then 3rd to 60mph.
Vast differences. Are there hard lower limits then it looks at the PCM or am I missing something? BTW, I expect your software to arrive this week sometime and it may be that Edit did not handle this correctly????
Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
I did some logging of the shift mode PID, my A4 truck used modes 4, 6, and 7. 6 was normal driving, guess that's normal shift mode. 7 was with tow/haul on, guess that's performance. 4 happened when kicking down at WOT, I'm guessing that's hot? Leaves only cruise mode, and number 5. Does this sound right?

Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
He is right as usual. The Performance tab is the Tow/Haul mode on trucks. I set mine VASTLY different form normal and it behaves as I asked it to. I am good to go on this. Thanks.

Re: "Normal" and "Performance"
so if tow/haul mode is performance mode, and normal mode is normal driving... what is "hot" mode?
