I just got a great deal on a used compound setup with a gated s364.5 and a s483, and I?m curious if I?ll now be pushing the limits of the stock rods? Long block is stock other than valve springs and head studs. I?ve got 110hp injectors and a 6.7 cp3 pump. I?ll be dialing in the tune on a dyno, what number should I stay away from? I know high torque at a low rpm will break rods, but anyone know some numbers?
I ran a 64/65/13 over an s480, 120hp sticks on stock rods just fine. I don?t have any numbers though for you that you are looking for.
I guess the main question is, will I be able to hurt the engine with my current tune on those chargers, or will I run out of fuel before I reach the limit of the bottom end?
Head studs is definitely recommended but bottom end should be fine. Just keep an eye on drive pressure, that?s where things can go sideways, if you got high drive pressure.
You don't really have enough fuel to hurt things much. With the stock cp3 you will be very limited. That being said, you will be able to still make a lot of low end TQ if tuned right. That will be where you see issues. You've got enough turbo there for 1000hp.
Dyno day was cut short, on my second pull the truck spit out the rear freeze plug. Made 669hp and 1075ftlbs with 2800uS and 38* timing on the big end. I expected more torque from this setup, my 464 made 1164+ ftlbs, the compounds definitely carry the power longer in the rpm range though! Will a fleece coolant bypass solve my freeze plug issue? Also, can I expect to make any more power on my current fuel setup?
