We performed a write entire with a US file over a European file and fixed the 3rd gear issue.

where are you located, i can hook you up with the fix, but is not doable with HPT.
regarding your question: in general it could be dangerous, yes, but the changes between euro/US are mostly emission related, so i would not recommend it.
in any case i would never recommend switching to a different base calibration besides the one which belongs on the car, there are so many more parameters stored in the ecus you cant access, or even see in hpt.

I'm hoping HPtuners will give us access to these paramters in near future. This problem sucks and I wan't to get rid of it. And unfortunately no one here will post the solution...
