Virtual Torque Questions

I am trying to tune a 2016 Silverado with small cam and Long Tubes, and am following the tuning school method for virtual torque. I am trying to increase the max torque in hopes to see full commanded timing, but when I do the actual torque also increases. How do you ever get the max torque above the actual torque? I am including a log where you can see the TB closing at 5400RPMs, as well as the tune I am using and the stock for comparison sake. any help would be great.

It wont increase your max torque value. Your virtual torque tables tell it how much its making, the driver demand is what asks for how much of that tq. If you are making the tq the system is asking for it will limit throttle and spark to hold that tq number. With a small cam setup I wouldnt be messing with the VT tables except for idle (if needed) or if there is a driveability issue.

Driver demand should drive your predicted torque. Your virtual torque table I believe is the table you are looking for but as you increase that you want to keep an eye on peak torque as well. I'm very new so double check but that is my understanding

Torque Model > General >> Under Torque Coefficients, EQ Ratio Based. Have you tried lowering the values in the column that matches the commanded EQ Ratio (PE) to be closer to 1.0000 to see if this helps at WOT?


Your VVE is unchanged from stock and this can also be a problem. Timing table is also strange but I suppose it is adequate if you're not finished tuning and just trying to get the throttle to stay open. If you increase your Virtual Torque table in the areas of WOT, you should also increase your Driver Demand tables in the 85%+ areas. This part isn't always necessary but is usually a good idea. Don't go crazy though, maybe add 10-20%.

try increasing your virtual ve at wot and see if that raises max torque.

I am working with a similar problem on an LFX. I have increased the VT tables and gotten a significant increase in CMDTq and ENGTg and still the engine has no problem achieving this with less than 80% throttle.

Was wondering about continuing with VT table modding when I took the car for some 0-60 wot pulls on the street. Without Traction control, it has become quite difficult to manage wheel spin. I wasn't really interested in doing burnouts without using the brake! Throttling the pull is actually slowing my 0-60 times.

Went back to the HP Tuner Essay on GenV tuning and found that GM may restrict VT to aid drivability rather than to reflect actual engine capability. So I think I'm going to pull out some VT and allow suboptimal throttle % to aid drivability. This means going on to timing adjustments and leaving the CMDTq easily achieved.

The torque estimates are also based on VVE. These computers need a full VVE tune to run right. Zeroing out the cam table helps with this, and it drives better anyway.
Early in my truck tuning I would increase the VT for the same reasons you describe, but after I got my VVE dialed in better, I put the VT back to stock and it ran much better.
