Checksum Validation(Oversimplified)- Think of your PCM as a cash register, stay with me here! Values are assigned to peices of information. If degrees of timing are represented by nickles for example, and you add a few degrees of timing the "drawer" will be off by a little. It may still function, but if someone(dealership or EPA) performes a count they can USUALLY tell right away if something has been changed.
What is/are Alpha-N tables. I assume alpha numeric? I've heard of it's use to control some functions on earlier cars but what exactly would one of theese tables look like & how do they work? How do they differ from the tables I'm used to seeing with HPT?

It is a sticky. Been one for at least a couple of years.
This list still does not cover all acronyms on the table lists. Is there a comprehensive decoder ring somewhere I havent found?
Also terms like "torque" must be a derived term since I dont think there is a direct measurement of torque how is it derived?
