On the 8 speed trucks, I disable the upshift torque management but leave the downshift torque management stock. Setting the min spark timing has no effect on the downshift timing retard on the 5th gen vehicles.

The main reason you can disable the upshift torque management on the A8 is due to the closer gear ratios compared to the A6 trans.

Lucas287 do you think having the TC unlocked for 1-5 will effect the towing ability or daily driving?
I only have the TC unlocked completely 1-4. 5th locks up at 35 MPH. 6th at 29, 7th at 34, 8th at 43. Most of the time when I'm towing it's less than 5k # and I don't spend much time below 35 MPH. Having a 6.2 helps a lot though. Un-laden driveability is a lot better IMO. Keeps it unlocked for most slow city speed accelerating but locks right when you let off and cruise around.Quote:

I always find that the TC status (locked or unlocked) has a big impact on the overall feel of the shift too. So, i'd suggest finding a TC strategy you like before fine tuning shift feel or else you'll be chasing your tail.
I was off a bit on my numbers. Here's my latest iteration. Yes, I keep my TC unlocked at WOT. (that's a different contentious debate but I personally don't feel a difference and figure it's easier on the TCC) It's a compromise to find something that works well for the manual mode too. I love driving around in manual mode 1-4 around town when I'm hot-roddin' around and I've found that the TUTD tables do literally nothing in the trucks and they just follow the same "normal" table. Keeping the TC unlocked makes it much more playful - combined with the throttle response of ethanol and it's quite snappy.Quote:

I talked with a local tuner and he said hes had a few trans get fried by disable the TW managment. Ill have to look at your tunes there in a bit more detail. I wonder what hes doing wrong?Quote:

Pretty happy with it now. Nice crisp firm shifts then I add more TQ Managment as power increases to protect the transmission.
Keep in mind this is harder on the clutch packs. If you're making a lot of power, it can wear them out quickly and it will start slipping in higher gears. So keeping some sort of torque management is a good idea. On high HP cars I give my clients two different TCM tunes. One for street and one balls out for when they go to the track and it needs to shift hard every time.Quote:

I do have some surging but its very slight and happens quite often. I can feel something at wide open throttle almost like a rotation so until I get some dyno time and start logging again I'm not flogging it nearly as hard.
I have a Solar throttle body that has veins cut as the TB opens. I feel its responsible for some of the issues as the ECU gets more Air than it anticipates causing the throttle blade to move back and forth a bit. Until I log it that's just a theory. At full throttle I wonder it might be knock not sure.
Im really wondering if the TQ converters not slipping because It did have that shutter issue. I had the dealership flush the fluid and refill the trans per the tech bulliten.

Mines not even 50 RPMs after tuning I can just feel it pull a little harder then not. Honestly if I didn't pay a lot of attention I wouldn't notice it.
Bringing this thread back up. My 1-2 upshift is very firm almost harsh at times and I would like to soften it up some so it doesn't hit as hard. Tried a couple of things but nothing really changed.
Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Take a look at mine, it shifts smooth when just cruising, but will get rubber in the 1-2 when stomping on it. Also changed the trans fluid to Amsoil, huge difference. The torque convertor stopped banging on decel.
