*** EDIT Part 2*** a full reflash to newer OS
I have all the software and hardware for all the F-Bodys and C5 cars.
I have a guy that has a 2000 Z28 A4 and I want to flash him to a 2001 or 2002 file so he will only have 1 VE table, how do you do it? I want to tune him Mafless.
Just select a 01 or 02 file and do a full rewrite?
Bill
Re: Need procedure to do a full reflash to newer O
do a full rewrite w/the 01/02 bin
Generally when I do this i try to make it as safe as possible... so I'll make sure the laptop is plugged into a wall outlet, car battery is charged, then I'll do a test full write first, if that works then I do a full write
Re: Need procedure to do a full reflash to newer O
Sounds simple enough..
About how long does it take to do a full rewrite?
Re: Need procedure to do a full reflash to newer O
Re: Need procedure to do a full reflash to newer O
One bit of caution first is that the 2000 VIN number will not be able to be used with the newer 01-02 program, different calibrations. Just thought I would remind some incase that was an issue (needs to keep VIN).
Re: Need procedure to do a full reflash to newer O
and relink the VATS if so equiped.
More Than Zero
Re: Need procedure to do a full reflash to newer O
Ok guys, say I get a "new" PCM from GM that doesn't have a file in it, it's blank, can I flash a 2002 F-Body file in it and then it will work fine?
Will I have to disable the VATS?
Bill
Re: *** EDIT *** a full reflash to newer OS
Just incase someone missed it ... :)
No! It must first have a BIN file flashed to it. The dealer should be able to flash your VIN onto the brand new ECM (that is what we did). I speak from experience as I tried to flash a brand new ECM for a friend, but was unable. HPT couldn't identify the config codes to determine if I had access to read/write to the ECM. To use HPT, you need to have the config files flashed to the ECM for compatibility. Otherwise anyone would be able to flash to any ECM regardless of support.
...
Yeah, it will need to be in a vehicle to use Tech II (through the OBD-IIport) to flash it ... at least that is how my local dealers do it. The good thing is you can use an F-body and swap it out in like a minute.
Re: *** EDIT *** a full reflash to newer OS
We have modified the rules slighly in 2.0..
2.0 should handle blank PCM's a little better.

Re: *** EDIT *** a full reflash to newer OS
From memory, you should be able to flash a blank one by just doing a rewrite entire. A blank PCM is the same as one in recovery mode.
Re: *** EDIT Part 2*** a full reflash to newer OS
No can do guys.... :(
I tried to reflash a 1999 LS1 PCM with a 2002 LS1 file and it won't work because I have two seperate cables.
1 cable has 1999-2000 LS1 Cars and my other one has 2001-2002 LS1 Cars.
So it looks like I'm screwed unless someone can help me out.....

I can flash any PCM to any year and model with my Tech 2 and SPS.
I can flash your file to your PCM also. I have 02 Fbody support. That get your started in the right direction.

Re: *** EDIT Part 2*** a full reflash to newer OS
So let me get this straight. If I want to go from a 1999 to a 2002 OS (the 2 years I bought),
1) I download someone's 2002 bin
2) Copy the tweaks from my current VIN that I've already done to it to the new bin.
3) Select "Flash" "Write Entire" "Non Active Test" and make sure it will work.
4) Assuming no error messages in in step 3, Select "Flash" "Write Entire" and watch it burn.
I noticed 2 potential issues:
1) "Relinking VATS" what is the procedure for that?
2) VIN may not work. What is the fix for that?
Re: *** EDIT Part 2*** a full reflash to newer OS
Since you're using a 2002 Operating system, you won't be able to put a 2000 VIN into it (If you're concerned with emissions, you can just flash the PCM back to a 2000 w/a basic tune and the codes turned off... that's what I do)
I've never had to do a VATS relink.. but if for some reason the car won't start after and th security light blinks... then do a VATS relink and you'll be set

What do you mean by "if you're concerned with emissions?"
1-The smog machine can't fail you for the VIN not matching the one entered for the test, and may not even check for it for all I know.
2-Even if it did read it and the BAR red flagged your car..they can't do anything short of coming to your house and scanning your ECU.
so i dont think emissions is a concern here.
Re: *** EDIT Part 2*** a full reflash to newer OS
I have had people report on failing emmsions due to incorrect vin on the pcm. Basically, it is nothing other than somebody at the inspection station trying to create a fake passing for a friend using a different vehicle, if you think about it the way the state does.
Glad I live in FL with no emmsions.
