Problem resolved. I had interference from my Dakota Dash interface module, once unplugged I was able to communicate from my laptop to the vehicle ECM.

I'm unable to get past this step when scanning my ECM. Every attempt leads to 'Failed' during the 'Preparing VCM' step.


Battery voltage at the OBDII is 12.56V during these attempts.

I've tried repeatedly to 'Write Entire VCM' without success. I keep getting the error 'Mode 2 Erase Failed - Check 1 Failed'

Issue solved. My re-seller responded this morning with the info.

I recently received my new VCM that I purchased through a re-seller but have not received an email with the application key. Should this email come from the re-seller or from HPT?
