If the transmission is rebuilt and you are confident the 3-4 clutch is in good condition, then I would look at shift soleniod "b". Either the wiring or the solenoid itself.

Personally I use prefer a PCS transmission controller.
why not just build the transmission?
The transmission will work without BCM but you may not be able to command downshifts. The theft systems will give you problems with out a BCM. Linkage can be either cable or a rod.
