I was told by someone that the 98 LS1 knock sensors needed to be de-sensitized... at least I'm pretty sure that's what he was getting at.

Maybe someone else can confirm or de-buff this?

Since you've already checked the sensor Al, I hate to say it, but why not double check the cam.
I know its not much fun to pull the cam, even on a stock LS1, but what else can you do besides buy...

Can you be a little more specific when you say "I have been having a problem with 2nd and 3rd gear starts after..." ?
