    Leaving MPVI Plugged In

Is it a bad idea to leave the MPVI PRO plugged into the car??

Is it hard on the circuitry?? That little green LED can't be much of a drain on the battery........

not advised to leave it plugged in because, yes, it can drain your battery
It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be done in two weeks...

That little booger drains a lot of power (for what it is). Don't do it.

I made that mistake with the earlier serial units...much to my dismay, I came back to about 3 dead batteries before I figured it out (it was back when I was traveling more). This unit draws even more juice...

Thankfully, the Optima Red Top was up for the challenge, and is still going strong to this day.

I put a switch under the dash on the bottom right pin on the DTC connector. Pin 16 I think? Whichever one is +12 ign. I removed the dtc connector from the holder and tucked it under the dash then ran it over the hump to the passenger side and up to the console. I have my LM-1 hanging from the mirror.

How long does it take to drain the battery? I loaded up a new tune last night and I think I left the interface plugged in. I hope it's OK when I get home tonight.

With my old serial interface, it took about 3 days to drain the battery enough to keep the car from being started (Optima Red Top). I'd assume it'd take even less than that for the newer pieces...

116k miles w/ original battery, takes about 2 days for the MPVI to drain. But if I leave Surius turned on it's dead the next morning 8-10m hrs.

i've been leaving mine plugged in constantly, car sat for a week once with it plugged in and had no issue starting the car. huh, my car must be a freak. other than the battery draining issue, is there any potential damage to the HPT interface from doing it?

    Holy crap.
No wonder my car cranks so slow after sitting for the weekend. A on/off switch on the box would be nice. I have mine tucked under the seat so didn't even realize it was draining the battery when the car is off. Thanks for the heads up.
