Won't pick up ECU model, won't read data, all from supported HPT vehicle.

2017 Audi A4, 2.0L 4cyl, hit "Read Vehicle":

"Unknown controllers detected. Specify or read again."

I specify the exact model (MED17.1.1):

"Failed To Retrieve Flash Data"

I specify a previous model (MED17.1):

"Protocol Init: Failed"

VCM Editor isn't say "hey, we couldn't read the data, here's a stock tune file to start with so you can flash something"...

I just can't do anything.

Got the customer's car in my garage for the next few hours. Any help with trying to read the ECU would be greatly appreciated! <3

Edit: Pulled the ECU out directly. Instead of the MED OS like HPT says it is, it's a SIMOS 18.4 OS.

Even when I select "SIMOS 18.1/18.6" in VCM Editor, it does the same thing it did before...

"Failed To Retrieve Flash Data" and does not pull up a stock tune.
