Ok got an odd one here, 12V cummins swapped 09 F-350 6.4

All right guys I've got an odd one here. Got a customer with an 09 F-350 originally 6.4 diesel that has swapped in a 12v cummins. I plugged into it to read the ECM but all I can see is the TCM. I was able read and save the file but when I open the file it only shows transmission data. Would this be due to a missing ground on the ECM? Any help would be appreciated.

It's not seeing the ECM so you have to find out why that is.

Look for this ground top right of diagram. ECM Ground distribution.png You obviously need power and ground for the ECM and to have power and communication on your OBDII connector.OBDII.png

DRIVERSIDE under degas bottle you have 3 connections.. 1 big black plug, 1 big white plug and 1 small black plug. the 2 big connections can be a pain sometimes and if not plugged in correctly it will not communicate to pcm. check those connections.

if it has a Cummins engine why would you need the 6.4 ecm side of the tune? or even need to see the data from the ecm side of it?

I got it to where I can read the ecm and tcm all that is good. Disabled pats in the ecm and wrote entire. New problem is it isnt engaging the starter. All the cummins needs is a reference from the ecm like a signal to start and then it doesnt need the ecm after that.

Does it have power on the starter solenoid wire when cranking? How do you have the truck wired for the starter?

One thing i ran into on mine was if the Ford ECM didn't think the ford fuel pump had power it wouldn't send power to the starter. realized this when i left the relay out for the ford fuel pump when testing some stuff.
