RFE65 trans ? and how long was it down ? My brother works for a fleet maintenance company , their main trucks are rams, Talked to him last night, he's never had one throw a misfire code, but he's had a few run like you are describing, but only RFE65 trans , he said he would do a trans relearn , and tb relearn.

As for leaving the MDS plugs attached to the harness, I don't see why that would only affect #6 , but at this point unplug them and see what happens.

Yes the solenoid at the end is the VVT solenoid.

All the MDS solenoids do is control oil.

It's the zf8hp trans and I'd say from it was parked for 2 months before I took apart to replace cam and lifters.

If it were me here, the first thing I would do is unplug all 4 of those mds solenoids. Being that the load is being removed from the circuit (Assuming you decide to remove the 4 solenoids of course) and on those 4 connectors, there isn't enough current flow going through those wires and connectors on the mds harness to be even needed to consider worrying about corrosion. Id also be a little concerned about the possibility of having just one of the few VVT enable/disable tables in your tune to not be quite right and cause some sort of issue there. While I understand that it could only be but so much nof an issue given that the solenoids are removed and all... but you still have the electrical harness for the mds which is also tied to the pcm, among other things and with your solenoids still plugged in here , if any of the vvt tables are set incorrectly, from an electrical standpoint, your vvt is fully connected, not to mention the fact that the pcm won't know any different either, and could very well go on thinking that the VVT system is operating normally as it reads the voltages from the solenoids still hooked up. Just something to consider and think about really. Also., have you by chance posted your current tune on here yet? Curious to see if anything is causing this issue in there somehow...I see where you said that you have changed out this vvt solenoid/oil control valve . Do you recall which manufacturer had made this new replacement VVT solenoid by chance?

Sorry about that Purple Ram! I didn't realize there was a page 2 until just now, so I never saw your post where you also suggested unplugging the solenoids, Lol.. Once I saw page 2 and what you wrote, I thought to myself.... What are the odds that someone else would aliso mention unplugging the solenoids as well? Lol.

so the vvt solenoid is a duralast part number ts1023. and ill disconnect the mds solenoids. ill post the tune. the tune is dummy down from when it had to pass emissions and started rounded off came lobe a couple months ago so the timing was put to stock.

Interesting. Why do you scale the axis in max airflow table like that?

I haven't messed with any cam/vvt tables in the tune I believe that's stock as far as I'm aware. I don't fully understand the vvt degrees so I haven't touched it.

And isn't the solenoid at the end of the mds harness that goes to the back of cam phaser/gear the vvt solenoid ? And that solenoid was replaced on the end of the mds harness.

All good, I’ve done what nick has done with removing the solenoids and putting plugs in on two separate occasions ,but niether truck threw a code….. maybe there is something in the tune, but why only one cylinder misfiring,……that’s the odd part.

It doesn't make any sense. I did a continuity on the mds harness and that passed yesterday. But the tune I posted has been in the thing since last year with no issues. So I wouldn't think it was the tune right?

Someone that works on a bunch of these gen three's had 3 different cars with a misfire. All were even number and all in the rear (6&8). Like you they changed everything and eventually the harness even tho it tested good. 2 of the 3 ran fine after changing the harness. Makes no sense, I know

Far as the exhaust centerline think about it... that valve opens on the power stroke, is open for the ex stroke, and closes on the intake stroke, right? CL is imaginary line thru the center of the lobe (max lift). If you picture tdc bdc it like a clock a typical ex cl would be around 8 oclock. 90 degrees (your small cl) is retarded to 9 oclock and 130 degree would be advanced (sooner) like 7 oclock : )

Fuel to air ratio. Going off the ex lobe. Mopar is different. fer shur

I made a bunch of changes. Load this tune and let me know how it works out. You did have VVT still enabled in a spot or two..

I'll load it in either tomorrow or Friday because I have to put the intake back on because of unplugging the mds solenoids. But is there a reason to turn vvt off?

Are you running a cam lock or a cam limiter with your cam? I meant to ask you this before sending the tune. I may make an adjustment or two depending on your answer to this question here.

Just went back and reread your opening post. better question is exactly which mds cam did you install? Im really trying to understand why you went with a mds cam if you were intending to change to non mds lifters and plug up the mds solenoids? You have literally done 100% of what is needed to be done to be able to swap in a non mds cam, and expanding your list of possible options substantially.

It's a mellings replacement cam. Ik it makes more sense to have just put in any other cam rather than the stock mds one.. but honestly for me I just needed it up and running quickly because it's my only 4x4 and not alot of funds to have gotten a Performance cam with the parts to support it. I'd rather do it right rather than have botch it. But that's why I went with the stock mds profile.lol

How does the pcm know where the cam is with a stock cam? Is there a sensor or is it just calculated?

This one should be better suited to your cam and current set up...
