Noob question? How is all this file sharing and editing happening?

    Hey guys,

I'm completely new to HP Tuners and have just received my MPVI3 and credits to start on my own car. Anyway, my question is this.. How is it that people are just posting and sharing files to be edited without payment? I've tried to mess around and save changes I've made on tune files and it won't even let me do that without a license.. so how is it that all these people just post files for others to edit?

Have you synced the MPVI to the computer you're opening files with?

You can only "edit" tunes that you have a license for.
But you can "view" any file.
And, you can copy data from any file and paste it into a file you DO have a license for, and save it.

If you have a MPVI2 or newer synced to the editor you can edit and save files you do not have a license for. It does not ask for a license unless you try to write the file to something. It does not work that way with the old MPVI1.

edit: Or maybe it's having the MPVI2-up registered to your account (Help > Verification Code), syncing is just for letting the Editor know which licenses are stored in the device and only needed when writing a file.
