1999 GM 2.2 Custom Tuning Help

    So my project is a 1950 Crosley with a 99 s10 2.2 and 5spd trans.
I know the 2.2 is tune able with hp tuners but I've never messed a lot with ecu's and tuning. A local guy i know has HPTuners and mentioned something about re flashing it? I know i need the security removed/egr/fuel pressure sensor/rear 02/etc deleted out as there no longer being used. Is that something that can be done? When re flashed does that mess with timing? He also mentioned he can set a signal for fan relay to come on/off at set temp. With some research comparing a 99 cavalier and this s10 ecu i found pin#54 to be the signal for fan relay. I installed a pin and wire and ran to relay. I also hooked up a mil light and the obd2 port tonight.

This is the deadest section of this forum, and I'm not really qualified to fully answer your questions but will touch on a few things.

The newest version of HPT is limited on what emissions related things it can control. It should be able to handle the security & fuel pressure, if it even used fuel pressure sensor in this ECM. Some of the earlier ECM's didn't. The o2 codes may require an older version of HPT to turn off.
Just adding a pin won't necessarily make it possible to control the fan. It depends on if the Cavalier ECM and the S-10 are the same and then it might need to have a Cavalier operating system loaded.

Not sure what you mean by "messing with timing", but I would assume the HPT tables for these ECM would include the ability to change timing.

Very limited on things you can fiddle with. I would honestly be looking at an aftermarket ECU, there's nothing about your swap or the engine that requires the stock ECM in order to work.

Microsquirt? Those will do 4cyl stuff, right?

flashing the ecu won't change anything other than the specific things that your local guy went in and changed. You need to ask him if he can turn off those things your needing turned off. Some people can others can't. There is a test the tuner can take that will unlock the emmisions adjustment stuff if he takes it and aggrees to their terms etc.
It sounds like you have a cool little project and I bet its alot quicker and more driveable than the stock engine and trans. I'm doing some minor tuning to my s10 just getting it to get better milleage and a little more power. But im new to tuning these 2.2l engines. Im used to tuning with a timing light, vaccum gauge, tach, and a screw driver still LOL.

You can add timing as you wish, maybe three degrees be safe. Many times the PE table is excessively rich as well. Should be able to raise revlimit and also lower parameters that enable pe mode engagement.
