VCM Editor Requires Writing Before Reading?

    Hi Everyone,

I cloned my ECU and wanted to read my 2014 CLA 45 AMG (Bosch Med17.7.2) using VCM Editor and MPVI3.
When I attempt to read, it wants to write a small file first to my ECU. Is this normal and safe?

    Thanks,
    Aaron

HPTuners Support says this is normal for some Mercs. Seems scary but going for it since this is a cloned ECU and should not result in losing the ability to drive my car.

I tried and received the following error. Contacted Support again. Anyone else encountered this?
"Failed". "Write Transfer Aborted". It is not allowing me to attach a picture here of the error.

That sounds like a difficult problem to have. It would be helpful to see a screenshot of the error so we can get a better understanding of what is going on. Can you post a screenshot of the error somewhere else, like an image hosting site, and then provide a link here so we can take a look?

Support has not been able to help me. Suggested using beta but no luck. Someone here has to have encountered this before.

Can VCM suite import bin files?

I figured it out and wanted to share some what I discovered.

    My stock ECU is part number A 270 900 21 00
    I cloned my ECU to a part number A 270900 09 00

They are both Bosch Med17.7.2 and both work on my car, however, only A 270 900 21 00 works with HPTuners.

    Cheers!
