EcoDiesel "write software update"?

I used HPTuners to flash my 2014 EcoDiesel Grand Cherokee about a year ago and don't remember seeing it then, but today I hooked up to load a different file (really just a few adjustments to the same file) and noticed the drop down menu that allows you to select a calibration flash or full flash had another option that said "write software update" or something to that affect. What software update is this, and what purpose does it serve?

That is part of the initial process you need to do the first time you tune a ecodiesel (with HPT). Once it has been done once you don't need to do it again.
