    E38 Fail!

    I use a 2006 LS2 in a Hot Rod project with a E38 ECM and a 8-Stac intake Driven in SD mode.

The problem I got is that the MAF is failing and the software puts the throttle in fail safe. I have tried to look out the MAF sensor, but it still reports fail in VCM scanner and the ECM is going in fail safe. When I go into DTC in VCM scanner there is no reported DTC`s , but when I push erace DTC the MAF Status is going to No Fail and the engine starts to Surge and suddenly stall. I have attached tune file and log for the problem

    Do anyone have any suguestions?

Your P0101, P0102, P0103 MUST be MIL on First Error. NOT No MIL. It MUST be able to set one (or more) of those codes for it to enable speed density.

Why have you disabled P0606? If you're getting that code, you should figure out why and fix it, not just turn it off. It's important. And whatever's causing it is possibly the reason for your throttle problems.

...or maybe it's not working because the ECM has almost every segment changed to something else.

    12622209 12622204 ?

we bought this ECM with harness from Howell EFI So they have made the segment swaps. Is there any way we can change them back with hptuner? So they will be correct..

I think I would try failing the MAF first.

You can change the first six segments listed there with HP Tuners, but can't touch the last two which are for ETC. And since you're having ETC problems, that's most likely where the mismatch would be that's causing it. If you eliminate all other possibilities I'd suggest going back and asking the people who created this chimera of a calibration how to diagnose it, since we can't see into the electronic throttle segments and don't have any way to diagnose them.

These is the parts that was shipped with the system and ECM: ETB0024 Throttle body GM 12679524, Throttle pedal GM 25835421, Bosch MAP sensor GM 12591290. On the 8-Stack we use at ETB0017 Throttle Body as a servo unit. Can that make any mismatch?

Don't know, since there is no way to know what is in the two hidden electronic throttle segments of that calibration. Not with HP Tuners, anyway. The person who built that calibration is using something other than HPT. If they have some special way to make it work then you need to be talking to them. We can't see inside there.

Is it any better/different after setting the MAF codes to MIL on First Error, like they should be?

P0606 is your cause of the reduced engine power. I see that code most commonly when the ETC tables have been modified improperly.

If what you're describing as an "8 stack" is an ITB (individual throttle body) setup, and you got everything from one shop, they most likely modified the ETC tables and the PCM doesn't like the way they're setup.

Need to find a bone stock calibration for your operating system and swap over the stock ETC tables. That should take care of the P0606 but then you'll need to dial in the ITB setup yourself.

Another issue with ITBs is they can stick in the bores. The throttle blades are real close to full closed at idle. With some vacuum on them they can suck into the throttle bore/s tight enough to stick, causing a reduced engine power situation themselves.

It takes some mechanical setup and lots of patience to get them dialed in right.

I've done a whole bunch of them over the years. If you need help you can PM or email me.

HTH and good luck with it.
