    The frictions need to be a specific type. Is a genuine converter still available as a spare part? I reckon TransGoRobert might know a bit...

    If 6Lxx (I have no experience with 8Lxx), there are easy big ticket things you can do, such as disabling lock up in your choice of gears (e.g. 1-3, 1-4, 1-5) & zeroing out the slip tables.

    Usually that's because they used a converter that does not use the OE carbon woven lining for the lock-up clutch. Many times you can get away with adding a bottle of Ford XL-3 limited slip additive to the transmission and the shudder will go away.
