Hi edmat. Thanks for taking the time to reply and for your valuable input and sharing your experience. I am here to get help with tuning my truck. I have realistic expectations about my future as a tuner and its not extensive.
I love to wrench in my shop as a hobby and wanted to step into the turbo ls platform. I have access to more tools than the average person including a smoke machine. What I don't have access to is help with tuning in my hometown of 20k, which is 2 ferries away from a major city with a dyno and finding a tuner there is a chore at best. prior to building this truck I Google searched reputable remote tuners and chose one based on reputation and reviews.
You would have read on the first page that that was not a success. Sirius had made leaps and bounds with the truck, so its dissapointing when you discourage the only progress that anyone has made. If it weren't for "slinging" tunes this thing would barely run at all. I thought I was fairly thorough with the breakdown of parts used in order to get a tune file up and running. I was hoping this would be the connection I needed to find a tuner willing to help and it has been that. I really just want to do as much as I can to my own truck as with the past couple (carbed) builds aswell. Sirius.. I hope your still down to help. You have been great.

Oh no no. He wasn't being discouraging. What he was saying makes sense. edcmat is one of the best tuners in the nation, and on that reply he was sharing wisdom of experience.

You've been doing great work so far, and it definitely shows your abilities.

I was necessarily discouraging him personally from helping you with your tune. It was meant as an overall Modis Operandi.

Heres a log from today. btw, I didnt mean to come across in a negative way Edcmat, if I did I apologize for that. I really do appreciate the help I have been given so far. obviously I want to do anything in my power to get the truck running better, and tuning is something that I would rather practice with on a hoopty till I understand the basics.

heres a decent log, had a couple decent pulls near 10psi. I didnt notice the gauge run lean at all. theres another one but anytime a name a log with a period in the name it seems to hide it elsewhere. I will see if i can dig it up.

    edit, found it

Which tune files did you use for those logs?

Alright from your message it's tune 13.

Fuel starvation during acceleration from the tank level is what you figured out for the lean condition. Again, good find.

Here's the update. Pay extra attention to the wideband. Fueling was reduced, so if you have that problem again it'll lean out more quickly.

heres a short log from yesterday. I think maybe I was logging on the way to the store and not home. truck felt so good. smooth, pulled decent, no lean spikes that i seen at all on either run. such a great feeling, I was wondering if she was ever gonna come around.

I'm glad you're enjoying it now. There's still room for improvement. Here's the latest.

Got to get out for a rip today. sure hope the sun sticks around for a while. feels really good. as I am reviewing the log I notice that the map reading is definately lower than the last couple logs, and I am not sure that I heard the wastegate opening today. usually it opens at 10-12lbs and I dont think it got there today. I will log my way home too. When i review the log and switch it to gauge it shows a high of around 160kpa but cant find anywhere in the log it actually got there.. this time anyhow. I was seeing 10-12lbs the last couple logs iirc. Let me know what your thinking.

Highest I saw was 141kPa (6psi) at time 7:24. Did you change anything with the wastegate? Used to have no problem getting up to 12 psi.

Thank you! That wastgate is unreliable junk at best. Soon as I can I want to get an electronic boost controller. Any recommendations? The aem looks good, would match the afr but it looks like there is better options around the same cost.

    sun came out

its been a minute, but I did get to head out for a rip today. I did plug wires with heat sleeves today and lost the slight stutter at cruising speed. I have also added the greddy profec boost controller but it is set to off right now and still right around 10psi. I have a rear diff at the sandblaster right now so before spring We will be setup with a new trutrac and 410s. it has 3:73 now but i think its too much gear for my terrain. we have only 1 highway here and its 80kmh speed limit. I think the 4.10s will put me at a better cruise with tc locked. have a look at the log and let me know what you think. I wont run the truck too fast right now, the spider hears are worn and it causes a slight wobble and I dont wanna push it. sure feels like it would benifit from lowering the shift point slightly. feels like rpm climbs faster than it wants to shift and power falls off up there gently. I also have a 3" exhaust cutout to install but my hoist is occupied, I think with the chambered muffler (that makes it sound like a 4.3) theres a bunch of unhealthy backpressure.

Hey glad to see you back. Weather starting to get where you can get out and have some fun?

I've adjusted shift/lockup settings. Applied VE changes also.

Looking forward to seeing what this thing can do.
