What you have here is the usual issue behind those 5.3L where the lock-up piston got deformed and touched the cover. The more you drive it, the more it will load the unit with metal shavings which is like liquid sandpaper that will damage a bunch of hard parts. You need a new converter that is built with a billet lock-up piston. I don't think anyone rebuild those with OE piston anyway because they are always trash. They can handle only 120 PSI max and on those after a few years where you have crossleaks the pressure often goes up to 140 bending it past the point of no return and it is all over. They make a relief for it to prevent the pressure from going above 120, but it is a bit hit and miss. Much better to just get a converter with a piston that can handle it.
