2007 Hemi with Eagle swap and 6.1 cam

    Good Afternoon,

I am new too tuning and was wondering if anyone could point me too some videos or tips or files (example tunes) on how to tune my 2007 jeep commander with the following changes:

2009+ Eagle Pistons, Heads, & Rods.
6.1 Hemi Cam, Intake, Fuel Injectors, & Exhaust Headers.

    EGR is still connected.

    Thanks.

1st off what's the Newly built 5.7 in ? Post your tune and I'll do what I can, do you have any logs yet ? or just wanting a start up tune ?

Timing is going to be about 22* max for WOT, smaller bore needs less timing to reach Max burn.

The 6.1 Cam is similar to Comp Cams 268H , you'll find a few threads talking about the 268H cam, the 268 will make more Power and Tq over the 6.1 cam.

Look at some of the SRT8 Tunes, to get an Idea of the difference between them and the 5.7s, 6.1 tunes the RPM scale run from 416-6592RPM, personally I have mixed feelings about SBE 5.7s running in that RPM range, 6592 is high for a stock 5.7 parts, they'll do it, but not recommended for any long term life of the engine, the 5.7 uses a 3 bolt Tone wheel, they are weaker than the 6.1(and 6.2/6.4) 4 bolt wheel. During Preproduction 5.7 Hemi test back in 2002 we found the 3-bolt oblong and contacted the Crank sensor, break off teeth or just snap.

Attached is the final version of a tune I ran in my 04 SLT Ram, when I had a 09 5.7 (yes tone wheel was swapped over to 32 tooth), ran an Edelbrock intake and 85 MM tb, 6.1 injectors, Comp 268Hcam, great combo,, just keep in mind it'll rev up there if you let it.

Irony is the Eagle heads, and 6.1 intake are going to want to run in the 4400-6500 RPM range, lots of Airflow for 345CI,

Side Note: think about this, late 70s Bob Gildden 377CI Clevland(s) Pro stock engines were hitting 750HP with 340-350CFM heads and .780 Lift, spinning 8200-8400 RPMs. compression ratio or 12.5 to 1 , we can get 340-350CFM out of the Eagle heads with not a lot of work(300cfm out of the box)

Cool thanks for the directions i haven't pulled the factory tune yet or even made any changes. Just trying to understand the next steps. The Motor is in a 2007 Jeep Commander. So we use it for overlanding and camping. I am not looking to race her just have more HP than the factory set up (is why i did what i did) along with the valves seats dropping on the old heads. 450 out the flywheel would be awesome. What is SBE? Stock Bearings? I see what your saying about the tone wheel but i wasn't planning on having the rpms in that range for very much if at all. I looked for a 6.1 crankshaft but couldn't find a reasonable one unfortunately.

SBE=Stock Bottom End, even thou your pistons and rods are from a Eagle 5.7 they still qualify as Stock Bottom End.

6.1 crankshaft is overkill, only advantage for the 5.7 swaps is the 4 bolt ring, 90% of the people who do it will never see 7k Plus RPMs, which is good because the way the 6.1 crank is cross drilled it starves the Rod bearings once you get over 7500rpms..again not an issue for 99% of the builds,

the 5.7 cast crank is fine up to about 900Hp when the block uses Main studs and has good bearings, been there done it MANY times...and again most boost guys never go above 7k so wheel not an issue.

450Hp flywheel is easy for that combo ,but not with the 6.1 cam, 6.1s make 425(ish)@6k RPMs,

the Dyno runs I've made with 6.1heads/Intake/Cam and shortie headers on an 06 SBE 5.7(10.3 to 1) , were 390-400 @6250 rpm. Longtube headers got us up to 415@6350.
    Same SBE 5.7 with Eagle heads(compression now 11.60 to 1) we hit 435hp @ 6200

your combo will yield roughly the same compression as a 03-08 SBE 5.7 with 6.1 heads..

if you need more get your self a Comp 273 cam(SKU 112-502-11) you'll need a minimum 2500 stall convertor, but it'll get you your 450Flywheel and than some, it works well with the stock Eagle Valve springs , our testing on a 04 5.7(SBE) Eagle stock out of the box heads,6.1 intake ,Comp 273h, LT headers and stock 80mm Tb made 495hp @ 6k RPMs and tq was 490ft at 4600 Rpms....15more ftlbs than a 6.4SRT engine and only 200Rpms Higher, it's 60Ftlbs higher than the 6.4 truck engine and only 600RPMs.
Same combo with an Edelbrock Intake was over 505HP @ 6050 but tq was same as 6.1, bigger TB and we would see 510/510,maybe 520/515.

your combo with a 268H will get you 430/440 out of the box, and some tuning you'll see 450 flywheel.

Standard Sniper intake the SBE runs out of useable rpm to be reliable or street worthy,
Same SBE blew up on the Dyno with while testing a Standard Sniper intake, thing ran all the way up 7600 on a few pulls, it stopped making power at 7100(545) but didn't stall till 7500(535hp) Keep in mind this poor 04 5.7 had 185k mile on it before the beatings, and the combo had been together for about 9months and 6500miles of hard street driving, made a few appearances at Atco(lost another track) Island , and Cecil County , down in Philly beating up on unsuspecting Eco boost, NA Coyote F150s & 6.0 NA ls truck guys..... best take away was a 2nd gen Lightning guy(4kcash)
