If you have a wideband that's serial input to USB like my setup, you know that it's difficult and very frustrating to get both the vehicle and wideband to connect with VCM scanner sometimes. Here's what I do to get both to successfully connect.
1. Turn on wideband so it warms up
2. Turn car ignition on, but not started
3.Get comfortable for these next ones
open VCM scanner on laptop, wait a couple seconds for everything to load on the screen,
position laptop so you can align both USB cables in the slots, then SHOVE IN BOTH USBS AT THE EXACT SAME TIME,
wait for green light on interface, then pug into car,
click connect to vehicle, let it connect, click start scanning
4. start car
If this doesn't work, CLOSE VCM SCANNER AND UNPLUG EVERYTHING, then try again

This works about 4 out of 5 times. Before, I would get vehicle not supported message, wideband would disappear from parameters, or other parameters would disappear and I would have to make several attempts to connect both
