392 Cam install - Base tuning

I have a 392 300 that I finished up installing a TSP STG 3 cam into and I am working on building a base tune.

    Cam specs: 223/232 .582/.582 113+3

ICL: 110 -> What do I do with this number? Isn't this just when the intake is at max lift?

What do i need to modify to get the car to idle properly? I think I'm 95% there on this

you were supposed to put a degree wheel on the crank and use a dial indicator to determine your new intake center line

you were then supposed to compare what it is, to the 110 that came on the cam card

(that would have told you how far off your cam is)

If ICL is 110? ATDC wouldn't the cam be installed with the cam keyway at 12 o'clock and piston #1 @ TDC

Edit: The cam is installed correctly. Thank you for clarifying.

in your mind put a crank in a bare block

now try to position the crank at tdc

with no rods or pistons, just a crank in a block, all you can do is try to eyeball it, right?

its no different with a cam (except it turns at half speed so it will be off twice as much)

that is why they make tools to measure where it is

Are you suggesting that the cam is timed improperly?

Everything I have read and seen has stated to install the cam @ 12 o'clock with piston 1 @ TDC.

I don't understand the example of a crank with no pistons or rods on it. The engine is together so I can time the crank.

    @LilSick

like i just said ^^^ that would depend on where the dowel is

if the cam is meant to be locked, not limited, it is already retarded a bunch
Since I installed a phaser limiter does this mean that the cam does not go in at 12 o'clock?

Edit: I bought a phase limiter but I installed it sideways like a lock out. Figured it was supposed to be an interference fit. Looks like my own stupidity saved my ass from bending any valves. That will have to come out and be replaced with the lockout before it breaks...

    no

i have no idea where your cam is (no one does)

i am suggesting that is what the 110 number and checking tools are for...

to determine that the cam is where you want it to be

I installed the TSP cam at the stock cam angle.

The stock 392 cam is positioned for an intake center line of 118 degrees.

According to my logs at idle the stock 392 cam is right about at 134 ECL (which is 107 intake)

I do however still need to put a wheel on it to confirm the logs accuracy

Where did you get that 118 number?

if its not on e85 i would suggest splitting the difference between what you got, and what he just threw at it

    (timing)

    300 timing mad house wot.PNG

if that is a 6.4 you are gonna wanna spin it at least 6200 (higher prolly)

i believe that is way too much timing

    what fuel are you running?

As lil sick said this is something for him to go ahead and give himself some wiggle room to play with.. he can break it by half and be able to use some of it to keep his car idlingand running as far as the top side or wot he doesnt have to use this exactly he could do his own modifications to it.
