    cylinder airmass conversion to something I can use logged from another app?

    so I noticed today I get some timing retard at highway cruise high load before it down shifts. I'd like to try and pull some timing where this retard is happening. hpt doesn't log retard timing for my vehicle. Just total timing.

    I do have access to high octane and low octain maps to adjust, I just need to cross reference where to remove a few deg. torque app will show my timing retard, and I can log it and other stuff, spit it out as an excel file, thinking I can get close enough but of course hpt spark map uses cylinder airmass g. which my other app knows nothing about(me either haha). I can log maf g/s and map kpa, stuff like that.

    without just taking a wild guess, is there anyway for me to log a pid that's standard on torque, do some math's to cross reference?

    having the retard pid in hpt scanner would be preferred, but I'm pretty sure you can't manually add pids right?

    the pid is 2211a6 and math is (22.5*A)/256 if it's possible.

    this is a hybrid yukon, and hpt has moved on from these odd ball ecm's, thankful for what I have but no chance of them adding anything for me on their end.

    I'm guessing that's a formula for hpt scanner to make airmass log match the editor scale?

    but what perimeter do I need to be logging? I don't have anything called airmass on my list?

    yeah, that's the thing. I have the option to log dynamic airflow on my c6 ecm, but not this one. no knock retard log, nothing. I can in other scanners, even a 5$ phone app has the knock retard.


    I unless I can add custom pids to the scanner, I think I'm just going to have to take a guess.

    any other airflow channels? Like mass airflow

    yes, I do have mass airflow sensor in grams/s.

    That'll do for 98%. No good for throttle stabs, keep that in mind.

    how do I use maf g/s to come up with airmass for my timing logs?

    there's no defined ve table or fueling adjustments on this so I'm not trying to tune it per say. well there is pe target a/f I could richen up if I needed but this is a daily driver, 99% stock and never sees wot. I just licensed it to disable afm and adjust speedo. I happened to notice today that I was getting some knock retard at high load in overdrive on the interstate before it kicks down a ratio and wanted to pull a few deg out in that area since timing maps is one of the few things I do have. but since I can't setup a scanner table using cylinder airmass, I can't pinpoint where it's at on the timing table. it's a 6.0 Ls rated for 87 octane, but 160k on it, probably got some carbon build up or something. rather than run 93 in it, I'd like to try pulling a few Deg out at that spot.

    just as a test I copied the low timing map into the high and took for for a drive, it definitely felt flat power wise but no retard showed up. so I'm pretty sure it's not false knock.

    Use the same formula. Dynamic air and maf air are within a bees dick of each other when you're driving smooth. 87 is cruel on a LS, let her rip man, stump up for the 93

    OK, so I very much appreciate your replies. I've kinda gone down the rabbit hole a bit trying to understand this. I think I get it for my yukon, but now I'm questioning how I tune my other car. ls3 e38 ecm.

    so yukon, using your formula above and using the maf g/s logging seems to look OK. also I found a pre defined math called MAF cylinder mass 8 cyl 4 stoke. different math, but making two timing charts/graphs, whatever we call them in scanner. they seem to end up the same place on the map and same numbers.

    the pre defined one
    [50040.71]/ ([50070.56] / 60 * 4)


    yours
    ([50040.71]*(120/8))/[50070.56]

    they seem to be the same math? just different why of writing it?


    where I now run into my confusion is what's the best way to do my c6, the one I actually care about. I had just been using the cylinder airmass perimeter when setting the timing table log chart. but now I think I should be using your math, or some math pointing at dynamic airflow pid logged?

    is that correct? because it doesn't seem to give me data that looks correct? I'll attach a Pic of the math table I set up for it. it you wouldn't mind looking if I messed this up.

    Looks like you dont have [2320]. I would think your c6 should have a decent amount of supported parameters. Re-poll the parameters and have a good browse. Being e38 it should have what you need without having to create a math channel

    Go to Documents/HPtuners/VCM scanner/Vehicles folder. Open that folder and select all or highlight all. Then select delete. It will then force the scanner to completely repole your PCM and your cyl. airmass should be there like majik.
