    ECM calibration update

I will be installing a Magnuson SC. The VF Tuner that came with it gives instructions to update the ECM to the latest Toyota calibration. I am not going to use the VF Tuner but instead will be using HP Tuner. What I want to know is, do I also have to have the latest ECM calibration update to use HP Tuner.

You do know that VF tuner is more specific to Toyota than HPT right? Maybe gather some research and find what works best first?

The most recommended tuners on the forum I frequent, use HP Tuners. The guy that tuned it for me, uses HP Tuners and doesn't lock the tune like others. Not to mention free updates to the tune as need at no charge. One of the other tuners uses HP but locks the tune and will do 1 update with in 30 days if I add headers, CAI, etc. That same tuner uses VF but did give me a price, unless he doesn't use it anymore. Also the VF tuners use canned tunes. My tuner does data logging and tweaks it as needed. Not to mention I am not looking for to do 10's with a 6000lb brick. This is why I choose HP, from my research. By the way, HP updated my stock ECM calibration file. Something that Magnuson told me to do before installing the VF tune.
