Under normal shift timing I see you made a lot of changes, but no changes under Performance which is nowhere near the normal chart. Is this the way it should be?

Here is a data log from tune_5 and the airmass chart.

That's looking pretty good. How's it driving? Can fine tune now.

Yeah man 0-60 on those cars is 6.8 factory. You're down to 5.8.

One thing that would be helpful is to get quicker polling rate on scanner. Remove all those channels about knock sensor voltage and misfires. Remove MAF (freq error), Gear Selector Abuse, and Barometric Pressure.

I know you listed a couple upgrades. Still with the M90 blower? Gen 5 on that year IIRC. Pulley, ZZP cam, intercooler, shorties, etc?

It seems to be driving way better, a lot smoother also.

Where were you able to see 0-60 time?

Yes, it still has the M90.

I have been planning to do the ZZPerfomance intercooler and smaller pulley but have put it off until getting it running correctly like it is.

Should be it. Get a log to check.

Wouldn't go any higher on spark without an intercooler. If you get a smaller pulley watch cylinder airmass and adjust spark accordingly.

Watch MAP vs MAF, and you can see the engine is starting to run out of breath above 5000 rpm. Boost climbs, but MAF rate decreases. Cam and/or exhaust will help with that.

This log doesn't have wideband telemetry.

  9. #49
I don't know what happened with that. I'll have to do another run.

Well, now I have no clue what is going on with HPTuners. When I open the scanner and connect to the car it is all fine, but when I start recording all the channels disappear and it goes with the bare minimum of channels. I have saved the channels I want, and it will open up with them but as soon as I connect, they disappear again. I have tried saving, and locking out the layout and that doesn't work either. I found there was an update so I installed it, but still no luck. It has all been working fine until the last run most likely where you noticed there was no wideband telemetry.

Uninstall, delete the HPT folder (Program Files (x86)>HP Tuners), reinstall.

I did all of this, downloaded a new copy from HPTuners and same result, as soon as it starts recording all my channels disappear.

Well, it looks like I'm stuck only recording what data HPTuners wants me to record. I submitted a tech ticket with HPT, and every time I get a response it appears someone new is responding, just to repeat that those channels must not be supported for my vehicle. They never look in the previous chat where I've told them 3 times now that those channels were just working. They keep going round in circles, if they don't know WTF is going on, then just say so, instead of this crap. I guess I should have just scrapped everything, put in something from Holley, and been done with it.

Make sure the serial-usb is working.

Basically, I did the same thing. I uninstalled everything, and deleted everything to do with HPTuners, installed the latest version of the regular (not BETA), created a new channels list, and as soon as I hit record it connects to the car and boom, my AFR disappears.

So when you repoll connected with the ignition on everything clears out? Can't manually add channels? Though not always necessary, it's best to make a channels list while connected.

If I'm connected and recording I can't add channels or use a different channel config.
If I'm disconnected and have the basic channels and try to add AFR, it stays on the add channel list and will not add it. It's like it knows it's already been added, but won't list it.
In BETA when I hit record, it starts and then the whole channel list is replaced with a generic one. With regular HPT I hit record and my AFR completely disappears. In both cases as soon as I stop recording all my channels come back.

Well, luckily I found a BIOS update available for my laptop which seems to have undone whatever crap that started this mess.

I took another run and it seems to be running well.

Nice work. Glad you got it figured out.

Looks pretty good in the log. Minor trans tweaks now.

This is the 3rd forum where everyone said we have to know what your mods are and you have to post your tune and logs, and after I did.........complete silence.
Whether it's a 4 cylinder, V6, V8, or V12, all the tuning principles are the same it's just everyone has splintered into groups, and if you're not in one of those groups, you get no help.
I wasn't trying to say HPTuners can't be used to tune a 3800SC, just that it becomes worthless when there is no help to be found.
Hope you're feeling better about the HPT scene. Going to call it right here unless you have anything else? Hit me up if you decide to add more mods or need any help. Enjoy your ride!

What did you see in the transmission data that needed tweaking?
