TR6060 - VSS Signal Dropping Out - E38 ECM **Added Log
Been chasing my tail with this one for a few weeks now and looking to see if anyone has ever encountered this before... Previous setup over the last 2 years which also had an E38 ECM flashed as a 2007 C6 (LS2) - M6 never had any issues with VSS dropping out. Same wiring, same harnesses, same transmission. Only changes are ECM and engine.
Current setup:
L92 (Summit Stage 3 - SUM-8710R1)/E38 ECM - Running 2009 C6 LS3 OS for M6 Trans.
Mated to 2014 Camaro 1LE - TR6060 - 6 Spd.
Combo is in a swap vehicle (2002 bmw 325i) - Vehicle speedo is run off wheel speed sensor and isn't affected or used to display speed on the dash
After swapping in the 6.2L and 2009 ECM, the VSS Signal was reading high (~190 mph at cruising speeds).
Playing around with the VSS pulses/rev got my speedo within a couple % in accuracy, but it seems after playing with these settings that at higher highway speeds (70mph or so) that the speedo will randomly drop out to 0 mph once engine revs build above 3k rpm and above. High road speed (80-90mph) will have no effect as long as the engine rpm has come back down below 2500, the speedo in HPtuners will pick back up and display correct speed. I can put the car in neutral at 80-90 mph and slowly rev the engine up and watch the speedo in HPtuners drop to 0 once I get above 2700-3000 rpm and watch it come back to life once RPM's come back down, all while at coasting down the highway.
Ultimately, this isn't a real issue with it being manual, aside from the fact at full rpm in 4th at the track, reverse lockout is now wide open which isn't a great feeling when shooting for 5th and slipping into the reverse gate at ~135mph.
Last weekend I replaced the sensor, found no damage to the connector or sensor itself.
Wondering if anyone has seen parameters in HPtuners lead to strange behaviour on the VSS Signals? Believe my Pulse/Rev is set around 17 or so to the desired road speed.
The engine RPM being the factor which drives this is what's really puzzling as the output shaft of the transmission where the sensor is should not care what engine speed is whatsoever.
Bmille, send you HP Tuners file. Normally you'll want VSS settings in the tune to be REPTOS on both speed settings. If it's serial/serial you can run into the system dropping out VSS.
