I have been working for several months on fine tuning the engine and transmission in my personal 2018 Expedition and am very happy with my results. Figured I would share some template files for those who were looking for a good starting point. The Ford side of this forum doesn't seem to share as much as the GM side so hoping to change that.
For reference, my Expedition is essentially stock. CVF titan v2 intercooler (intercooler volume adjusted for in tune settings), colder spark plugs, colder t stat, and grill shutter delete are my only "mods".
Attached is a complete tune file, as well as my stock read for comparison. Don't just try to flash it or copy it as depending on application, your tables could be different. I believe it will copy right over on 17-19 F150 and 18-19 Expeditions, but be sure to double check as I can't guarantee anything. Flash at your own risk. If you don't have a CVF titan v2 intercooler, you'll need to change the intercooler volume back to stock under the airflow/speed density tab.
Starting point was on the transmission. Started with the latest TCM update from Ford directly (they have made several improvements over the years). I used this as a starting point. Looked through many recent 10r80 files from newer vehicles, including the Mach 1 Mustang, and implemented some of the nice updates from Ford. The shift schedule is extremely dialed in as I spent several months testing it and tweaking it. Gear changes are perfectly evenly spaced throughout the entire rev range. All upshift skip shifting is eliminated. Highway downshifting comes much easier now. TCC won't lock until 5th gear and when it does lock, it locks hard and there is as little slip as possible. Shift pressures increased. Allow for firm shifting in sport mode now. Some other changes but those are the big ones that come to mind.
As far as engine goes, using the forums and the inside of some other professional tunes I have seen, I was able to make a good starter "daily" file. It is safe for 87 octane as I left most tables related to spark alone, but I always recommend a minimum of 91 octane. Big safety limiters left in place. Typical
other limiters removed or adjusted. This tune will probably satisfy 90 percent of people just looking for a little more out of their f150 or expedition. Estimate this tune adds 50 HP and 50 TQ give or take.
Just trying to get this out there to help people out as I wish I had something like this when I started learning my own tuning years ago. I am very picky and had previously released templates but was not happy with a few things, so reposting.
Disclaimer, I do not do this for a living, although I do tune quite a few vehicles for friends and family as needed. I am very nerdy and picky and would not share this information if I had not tested it and was confident with it. I have had a variety of training from the Tuning School, Evans Performance Academy, and HP Academy, and have spent countless hours on this forum reading and reviewing tunes and data logs.
If anyone tries it or has more suggestions, I am all ears. Let me know what you think.
